I bought a new base, power supply and USB 3.0 connector cord for my Seagate GoFlex external hard drive. The drive is the same, just converted it to USB 3.0 with the new hardware. When it was on the USB 2.0 base and connector the drive would turn on and off with the computer and would immediately be seen in Windows Explorer as a drive, usually labeled E. Since conversion to the USB 3.0 base the drive does go on and off with the computer but at first boot it does not show as a drive in Explorer . . . Windows does not see the drive. I unplug it from the power supply and I hear the sound that a USB device has been disconnected so it would seem Windows detects the drive but it is not there. I plug it back in and when it powers up the drive immediately displays with the proper label as E. It works perfectly after that and all files are quickly accessible like they should be with USB 3.0.
Any idea why the drive will not show up on first boot? Windows 7, Service Pack 1, drive plugged into one of two USB 3.0 ports on Asus P8Z68-V motherboard. Changed to either port and the behavior at first boot is the same. I have disabled auto play in Windows but any other 2.0 USB drive turns on and displays in Windows Explorer at start up if it is plugged in. Any ideas? TIA J. |

The PC also has a 4 port USB 3.0 add on card which I had installed extra. I plugged the Seagate drive in its new USB 3.0 mounting into one of the ports on the separate card and it turned on and is seen in Windows at start up. It was not seen when plugged directly into the 3.0 ports on the motherboard.
I'm thinking it may have something to do with the Asus VBoost software that is part of the software package that came on a CD with the motherboard. That does not function with the PCI card so it is not interfering. The drive is working as it should plugged into the outlet off the motherboard. J. |
