I have an old hard drive I want to get off and put on my vanquish hard drive. I am a little computer savant but have never tried transferring pics ECT from one drive to another
Or can I just put the old hard drive in my vanquish. |

Yes, you can transfer the old drive over, and it can be an easy solution if the job doesn't seem too much. If it's a 3.5" HDD, you install it into your drive cage in any slot that's convenient. You will find wiring (a power plug and a SATA cable) identical to the computer you took it from behind your motherboard. They may be bundled with other cabling by cable ties so you have to cut one or two of them to free the cables. The SATA cable then runs to a SATA port on the front of your motherboard.
Uplug your rig, press the power button for about 5 seconds to discharge any capacitors, and touch metal on the case to ground yourself before you go inside. If you don't like that idea, you can easily get an external SSD. When you plug one into a USB port (the faster the better) it's recognized by Windows as one of your hard drives and you can copy over to it. Plug it into your Vanquish, and you can copy from it. Voila! Or, you can just keep it handy and plug it in any time you want to access the files. |
