Hi everyone,
So recently I joined the Digital Storm forums and have (tentatively) decided on a rig from Digital Storm, given their history of high-quality custom gaming computers and excellent customer service. I've decided on this build, which will be mainly used for 4K gaming at maximum settings, light video editing, and some streaming. I want it to be as future proof as possible, to play the most demanding games at 4K at maximum settings for the next few years with ultra smooth frame rates.

Hi Annihlated...Welcome to the forums.

Looks like a 4k killer machine to me. All quality and performance.

Yes, DS will special order parts.   Contact them for all the details like available and extra cost.

Good luck.

For a purely gaming PC, I wouldn't go with the X79 platform. I would go with the Asus Maxiums VI Extreme and the new i7-4790K with 4GHz base clock and 4.4GHz boost clock. These are supposed to hit retail by the end of the month. My understanding is that Asus is working on a BIOS update to make that motherboard work with the Devil's Canyon CPUs. If you go the Devil's Canyon route you would want to go with a DDR3-2133C9 or DD3-2400C10 for memory since those are the Haswell sweet spot for memory performance.

Asus has not announced a Maximus VII Extreme motherboard today at their Computex press conference earlier today. From what I read the "Extreme Team" is working on an upcoming platform.

For 4k gaming, and video effects editing, you will actually get more gain from the 4930k over the little bitty 4790k. More cores (both physical and logical) will prove to be quite useful when you're running extreme resolutions along with doing media editing.

In cases like this, the x79 and coming x99 are way better than your 1150 socket CPU's (z77,z87, and z97 included).

Custom PC
Ryzen 9 5950X
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme
128GB DDR4 3600mhz
EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming
Samsung 980 Pro 512GB m.2
Samsung 960 PRO 2TB m.2 x2

OK so to be clear and like I said earlier on, I will be doing video editing (not professional, merely as a creative pursuit), Photoshop, After Effects, and (possibly) streaming. Also, 4K gaming. So should I go with i7 4960X instead of i7 4930K? The CPU will be clocked to 4.8GHz-
5GHz. As for the RAM. Should I special order Quad Channel (4x8GB) Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB 2400MHz RAM? Or should I stick with the 16GB 1866MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM?
Thanks,
Annihilation

Can you point to benchmarks that show that the X79 (not the upcoming at some point X99) actually out performs the Z97 CPUs with 4K gaming? He isn't doing professional video editing, so that one is off the table. I haven't seen any direct comparisons on the issue.

If you're doing 90% gaming and 10% video work, the Z97 Devils Canyon will likely perform better than the 4930K. Even in my own tests, most games would give a 1-5 fps increase with the 4770K over the 4960X.

Well, X79 seems to be the only option in this case because the Rampage IV Black chipset has a PLX switch, so the 4-way SLI Titan Black setup can be run in x16-x16-x16-x16, which is simply not possible with Z87 or Z97 due to limited PCIe lanes.

Very true, if you are going with a 4-way setup, X79 is the way to go.

Asus has released a BIOS update to the Maximus VI Extreme, which supports up to 4-way SLI, to support Devil's Canyon CPUS: from the Maximus VI Extreme->support->drives and tools->Windows 8.1 64bit->BIOS on the Asus website: "MAXIMUS VI EXTREME BIOS 1504
Enhance compatibility for new Anniversary Edition and Devil's Canyon CPU.
Note: Must apply the attached BIOS updater tool first before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors."

Here is a link:http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/

This is a Z87 motherboad, not Z97. It appears that ASUS in not intending to release a Maximus VII Extreme, since it wasn't announced at their Computex press conference with the Formula and Impact.
