Hi all -

I'm a 2D/3D artist who's looking to work with DS for a rock-solid, future-proof machine in the <$7k range. Can anyone be kind enough to look at the specs below w/ any feedback? Anything to improve the stability and speed of the machine would be awesome.

My primary softwares will be Blender, Houdini, Cinema4D, Octane, Redshift, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. I will be doing both stills, animations (and simulations). I'm looking to eventually purchase a second RTX 3090 and a 1600w PSU to support it. Please let me know if any of the parts below would be a red-flag for this plan in the future.

I'm admittedly new to this, but have been doing my due diligence in the last week. But hoping I don't have any major blind spots at this point. Any feedback for incremental improvements would be deeply appreciated.

My ig handle of my art is @desertfutures - if anyone is curious.

I'm strictly a gamer, and don't know a lot about the work you do. We had a poster come around just maybe 2 weeks ago or so, and he was interested in a Studio Workstation build based upon a 24 core Threadripper, and one of the workstation GPUs. I suggest you start there and see what you think.

The 5950Xs are in such short supply, you may wait a very long time for one of those. The 3960X Threadripper should run rings around it. In a workstation build, you will have a studio motherboard much better suited to your workload. I have very strong doubts about the board you picked out to stand up to the workload.

DS has people on staff that can help you design just what you want, but a gaming rig probably won't satisfy you for long IMHO.

I'm assuming your intentions are to eventually SLI your 3090/3080 based on this comment. FYI: I've read in numerous places that NVIDIA's 3000 series chips do not support SLI -- other than the 3090; so I think you would need to grab another 3090 if that's what you wanted to do.

Yes -- I meant a 2nd 3090. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! I switched the mobo over to the ASUS Pro WS X570-ACE after some brief research.

The Threadripper unfortunately blows my budget out quite a bit, but I'm learning that the Ryzen 9 actually performs better in single core rendering, which is what I'll mostly be doing.
Cheers,
