Hello
I have bought the fastest Fiber speed network I can find here in Hungary (Might be better somewhere). I bought the UPC Fiber 120/20 Mbit/s. But When I do the speedtest, I get like 30-34Mbit/s, and 5Mbit/s up. They told me I would at least get 90down and 10up. I tried my laptop, an XPS M1730, it got around 100down, 15 up. I do not know if it has a good network card or not. haven't checked it. My desktop which doesnt get the speed has the pecs as following: EVGA X58 3x SLI Classified 920 i7 Corsair Dominator 1600MHz 6Gb (3x2Gb) Sapphire radeon ATI HD 5870 320Gb Barracuda Corsair H50 cpu cooler Corsair Obsidian 800D Corsair HX 1000W PSU Is it that I dont have a good additional network card? NB! All the testing was done with cable connection directly into the modem! If you can help, please do so! |

I am doing a speed test
yes, the laptop and the desktop has the same firewall / same antivirus. (ESET) But I think the laptop has a network card added on it. Can this do the difference? Does the EVGA classified offer enough net speed for my connection? |

Ok
Just to be clear, the LNA port you are talking about, that is what there is in net-cards? (Cards you put in the pci slot) No the computers have different OS: Desktop Win7 Prof 64 Laptop WinVista Premium 32 |

the classified has 2 lan ports, no pci card.
could be the os, is the win7 firewall disabled? do a msconfig and disable all non ms services and then go to startup tab adn disable all startup apps, reboot and then when you get back to desktop, run the test again, don't do anything else or run anything else and lets see what happens. when doing the speed test, are picking the same location for both laptop and desktop? |

The windows firewall is disabled. The only firewall on is the one in the ESET antivirus. Is it necessary to have firewall?
Will buying a network card make the speed faster? |

yes you need to have a firewall.
I doubt the problem is with the mobo's lan ports, you could go and buy a network card just to get the same results. do what I said with msconfig and then lets see what you get. |

I disabled the msconfig stuff. And I found out the problem is from the operator. I will call them and arrange them to come and fix.
