Topic: Final build Posted: 13 Feb 2011 at 1:20am |
I have been shopping around and decided I would give Digital Storm a try(having an active forum with ppl willing to help is a plus). My old rig died, which I got 5 years out of so I'm semi happy. What I would like is a system that will keep me current with games over the next 3 years with room to upgrade at a later date. I would prefer an SLI rig, would like to play @ 1920 x 1080. The games I play are FPS and Eve Online.
So to the nitty gritty my budget...less than $3000. The rig I configured is less than that and would like input, hence the subject, which is found here http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=486384.

Here you go......Now this build is a little more expensive, but I believe you will be happier with it......I decreased your RAM from 12 to 6gigs....b/c 12 is overkill for game playing.... I changed your mobo to the ASUS Sabertooth X58 (Intel X58 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s).......can do SLI with this and it is cheaper.... I changed your SSD to the intel 160 gig......from the corsair 128 gig.....it's more expensive but it performs better and the overall build quality of the product can't be beat... I changed your Liquid cooling to the Noctua Air cooler.....it will perform just as well if not better and will run quieter....... I changed your Video cards from the 470 to the 570.....It will give you more GPU power....while costing you less in energy bills and produces a lot less heat than the 470's which run really hot...... I think you will be much happier with this build in the end but if it's not in your budget you can always drop the SSD back to what you had.....that will save you some money right there...... As for a monitor.....buy one from Newegg.....you can get it cheaper there and most of them are free shipping.......Different brands there to choose from...... just my .02 |

Thanks for the input.
How much more cooling benefit would I get if I upgraded from the Noctua NH-U12P to the Noctua NH-D14? Granted it's pushing towards the max budget limit, but in the end is it worth it? I've convinced my wife to complete the build I would be would be leaning more towards the $3100 mark including shipping. I plan on ordering within 7-10 days and would want to make this as painless as possible for her. So any and all opinions would be helpful. Thanks!

You don't need to upgrade the cooling the u12p will do a great job, do't go sli, go with one 570, then if you see you need another, drop a second in, take cory's build, change the psu to corsair 1000w, and drop the sli to a single 570:

One more thing.....Just in case you don't know.....the HAF-X case comes with a Default red LED fan in the front.....You will have to tell DS specifically that you want to change the red 230mm front fan to a green 230mm fan....it's 20.00$ more......just keep that in mind......I had them add the optional extra top fan to mine....want as much airflow(CFM) as I can get....I will have 2 fans bringing air in and 3 fans blowing air out.....

Unfortunately CM don't make the 200/230mm fans in green.

Just put it in the notes that you want the optional top 200mm fan added....it is 20.00$ more....they will either call or email you to verify the additional charge...one thing if you like.....you should add the case lighting.....adds a nice touch to your rig.....just an option.....it's only 10$

Didn't know about the quality of the ssd. I might get one if I can't wait for next gen to come out. Anyways, good luck with your rig. You're going to have some fun. Edited by Clusta - 17 Feb 2011 at 9:29pm |

I can show you green led 200mm fans, but they won't have the same airflow as the cm 200mm fans.
but ya how hard is it to make those fans in green and a few other colors |

@ Cory and DST u guys rock thanks once again for the help . With your advice you have made this entire buying process painless.
Slight change to the build I added the Noctua D14....it's only $55 more and bigger is better right? So I have overspent my budget by $200, but my wife has been understanding, which is a plus...After all it's for my "Mistress" as she puts it!

You ordered two days ago? and it's already in stage 5? That's really flying!
I've seen some people's rig's take up to a couple of weeks to hit stage 5. Haha. The worst part is after it's shipped though. And stupid Feddumb(ex) screws up delivering to your house, so your computer is actually like 20 minutes away but they won't deliver it till the next day. Edited by Qwann - 18 Feb 2011 at 9:35pm |

Since this is the config section and your topic is about config, I think it should stay here so that others can benefit from it. everybody's config post stays here, but if you really want it moved for some reason, then I'm sure Alex has no problem moving it for you.
but many people keep un informed in their config thread about their build from config to the time its shipped, here and then they post a reviwe about the system when they get it, and that goes in the general section. some just open a new thread in the general section and inform us about the build in that thread. just fyi, if you want it moved still, let me know, I will email him and ask him to move it for you. |

buckle up, the apps you used are gonna move a lot faster now, oh and I see you got the ssd, lol moving files and load times and other things are gonna be so much faster, your old pc is gonna feel like a person walking vs a sports car going 80mph.
you will always go for oc after this experience, once you see for yourself how it works and how its not a big deal when done right, you will never go back. |
