Have to admit I'm a little spooked dropping $2,000, that's a decent bit of cash and I've read some mixed experiences but it seems like a quality product so I'm giving it a go! I've built my own PCs before but I'm tired of it.

So my goal with this machine was a nice, silent rig (which is why I went with the Slade 2, plus it looks professional) that would last me a while with the intent of upgrading the video card later to save some cash right now. Plus I'm an ATI guy, so when Vega hits I'm planning to jump ship, but this card should hold me over for a while since I game in 1080p 60FPS. For the sake of cleaning up this list I've removed anything where I had 'none' selected. And I know some of you will disagree but I'm not a fan of overclocking so I passed on those options. I also have no interest in SLI or CrossFire. Updated with the changed cooling option / pricing.

If there was something wrong with oc on cpu then I would understand, but if the oc on cpu gives us so much more power, does not take away from the life/performance of the cpu/system then I can't see a good argument for not taking advantage of it.

But if you are not ocing the cpu then don't waste your money on that cpu cooler, go with a lower cost air cooler. Otherwise what you are doing is not going with oc performance but the unneeded headache of dealing with LC cooler, which could leak or pump could fail, long story short the only thing I could think of that can be a bit of headache with oc is the lc on the cpu, you skipped the perfomrance and took the possible headache for no reason.

Just some info, I mean if you are not gonna take the performance side of the coin why take the unnecessary/unneeded side?

something to think about real quick.

Other then that:

Congrats Let the torture begin

Fantastic info, thank you! I bought this machine to be silent which is why I left the LC on there, it said it didn't require any maintenance but now you have me concerned.

Would these two options still be very quiet in that case, and which would you recommend?

1. Standard Factory Heat-sink and Fan [-$94]
2. AIR: Stage 1: High-Performance Copper Heat Pipe Cooler [-$47]

And if I decide to switch to one of those, they're able to do it no problem? By what stage do you need to stop making changes?

Appreciate the feedback!

Congratulations!

I think you can use a stock cpu cooler just fine if you are not overclocking but personally I would opt for the high performance cooler. From what i read they should be able to make changes up to a certain point so hurry and contact them.

Man, I am about to drop about $3200 on mine with shipping.. OUCHCry

To answer your question, these air options will be louder for sure but I do not know how much that case will deadon the sound.. May still be pretty quiet.

With that case it should still be silent right?

both of those are what you need but they will be a little loud, the thing is that without oc you are not pushing your cpu to the temps that oc does so your cpu cooler does not need to work that hard, so when its under load you may notice a little noise but it should not be loud per say.

Keep in mind the cooler you had chosen also works with fans, so with high temps that one will be loud also.

but your main noise is gonna be coming from the gpu's fan, those are loud as hell.

You are not going to get quiet really, unless you go custom lc on cpu and gpu.

Doesn't this case have sound insulation and everything? It should help a little? Right? But yeah, when the gpu winds up it is loud as hell.

What's the best way to contact support to make a change if I decide to do so email or phone? And they refund the difference, right?

I'm still torn as I imagine LC will keep it quieter than a normal fan would, so I might stick with it. Thinking it over.

Does not matter much, you either have to suffocate the case to make it quiet or put it under custom lc with quite fans to really achieve quiet. Is it more quiet then the next case yes somewhat, is it quiet period, nop, those gpu fans under load scream too loud.

Keep in mind quiet subjective.

Well I'm not as worried about when under load, I've had computers that are loud basically at all times, but when I'm coding, web browsing, etc. I want it to be quiet.

Is there someone at DS I could ask for advice since they're familiar with the case and cooling options?

You can talk to a DS tech but I'm not telling you anything different. The DS tech should tell you the same thing I'm telling you. IF not then I would question it.

Your cooler fans only go high when the part is under heavy load, otherwise they stay low and that means no noise or barely any noise.

But whether we tell you here or a DS tech tells you, at the end 2 + 2 = 4.

If you really want guaranteed quiet you need quiet fans and/or lc and those have to custom ordered, and the gpu fan can't really be changed, the acx on evga when not under load are very quite for example.

otherwise for surfing and etc pc should not be loud at all and if the fans on gpu are loud during surfing then just lower the fan settings.

Your gpu should not increase fan speed much or at all when just doing regular stuff, web browsing etc..

Regarding water cooling.. I just do not have the courage to make the jump. I am worried than in 3 years or less I will need a water pump or something else but I suppose some may last much longer.. On the opposite side cpu fans go as well though I would much rather lose a single fan than lose a water pump..

Awesome! I can't wait to hear about!

I am hoping to purchase mine any day now. I am waiting for a client to pay me some cash so than I can justify it in my own mind and more importantly to my wife. :)

Please keep us updated on build progress, etc.

Congrats! Slade's seem to be getting some attention lately. I didn't see much on the forums about them until recently. There are some cool pictures in the General Discussion thread from a build that just got delivered. It does look professional and unassuming. No need for clients to know there is a 10XX card in the box.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D15 (Extreme Performance). It looks like it's $100 over my current selection which is way too much for my needs I think. It seems it's designed for overclocking but also says it's good for silent systems as it's a great cooler. But I have to stop adding more expensive parts at some point. :O

Noctua is one of the best coolers, its fine but just like the other cooler underload it can be loud, but for surfing and light work you should be fine, its really upto you, we normally recommend the noctua for oc.

Any feedback on whether or not this is worth it:

Noise Suppression Package Stage 1 (Optimized Airflow & Fan Speeds Only)

Since I already have a fairly quiet case I feel like this is kind of like throwing $50 away but just curious.

Nah, I would not do it. You can control your fans that matter yourself, and we are hear to help you every step of the way if you need it.

As a matter of fact if you have not already head over to the "must have software" thread, and download some of the stuff you need, I believe your asus will come with fan xpert to control cpu fans and etc, and if you download afterburner from the must have thread you can control your gpu fan, those would be the only ones I would worry about.

Be sure to download things like ccleaner and etc. I would grab all 7 apps from the first list.

I paid extra to have mine shipped next day because I am all the way on the east coast and I do not want my pc floating around ups for a week..lol

Hope it doesn't take long! Yeehaaa

Speed of shipping has nothing to do with how much the shipping companies take care of your system.

Its all about the drivers. and if they put them on the belts from which they fall off on to another belt, but the falling off part is not good for the system.

True but the less time they have it the better. If I was closer I'd be ok with standard shipping but I'm on the other side of the country.

@Rb67, actually from what I have been told the faster the servicer (aka air) the more chances of it getting messed-up cause it goes on bunch of belts.

@SXOR, No I was not joking I know first hand, and mine took almost a year due to waiting for parts, I wanted all classic parts, mobo/quad gpus etc.
