so i've been following DS for quite a while now and ive decided to take my first steps and ask questions about the future desktop i want to have.

first off, i want my case to be the Raven RV-01. i know back then that DS had this case to choose from but not anymore. how can i implement that into my order?


also in a youtube video called "the ultimate raven"

around 2:04-2:09 it shows a temperature and fan controller display. can anyone point out to me which one that is? cause it looks really nice and id like to have something similar.

also ive always been a big fan of radeon so is it ok to go with intel and a radeon graphics card?

welcome to the forum... first I'd like to ask you... why do you want to go with the Raven case?  What specific reasons?  Also why the fan controller?  Do you want this because it looks cool or do you want to have control of your fans?

Also please let us know what will be the native resolution of your monitor as that will determine what type of system would be best for your application... do you have a budget set for this rig?

i want to go with the Raven RV-01 because of the design. just the overall look of the case is making me stick with that one because it captures everything i want my desktop to look like, especially with all the specifications i want which would include led lighting inside.

i kind of want the fan/temp controller because it looks cool, im a fan of the extra gadgets and flashyness on the desktop.

probably gonna go with dual asus 24" monitors
1920x1080 resolution i believe.

my budget for this rig is around 3k and thats for just the desktop itself

You can order the Raven RV-01 and have it shipped to Digital Storm, or they might be able to order it for you. Either way you'll need to call them about it for specifics.

As for that video, I don't recognize that fan controller, the camera is pretty blurry. Your best best is to ask the uploader, but he hasn't been active for awhile. Maybe someone who knows more about fan controllers (I don't) can help you out though.

And yes, you can go with Intel and a Radeon card.

also i had a few more questions.
im not very knowledgeable when it comes to the different products in their respective categories such as motherboards and graphics cards so please help me out on some of these:

i was thinking of having this as my mobo
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme X79 (Intel X79 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s)

what are the benefits of this motherboard over the others etc?

should i go dual graphics cards or 1?


also for liquid cooling, is there a lot of maintenance involved? im thinking of stage 3 or 4.

As far as the different mobo's...I don't usually go beyond recommending the Deluxe versions, mainly because they tend to meet the needs of most for cheaper than the Extremes.  You would have to go to Asus website and compare the features, like audio outputs, backpanel I/o ports, usb's on board and extra monitoring features that you either need or are paying needlessly for.  Motherboards are a very individual thing.
 
Dual graphic cards or 1 depends again on your gaming needs.  For the 1920x 1080 resolution, esp on dual monitors, a sli setup is a must for maxed out gaming.  I would say to play it safe and be happy go sli.
 
Liquid cooling go stage 4 or beyond.  Below that just go A70, D14 air coolers or the H100 cooler.  Stage 3 isn't true lc and the ones mentioned do a great job.
 
I don't know much about lc, but maintanence I believe is just topping off fluids every year or so.

I think you should consider a case that performs better rather than having the "looks" of the case dictate which case you choose.  A computer needs to perform well and you need a good case for that.. I recommend looking into the HAF X 942 case.  It has several very large fans that operate quietly while moving a ton of air and this keeps all the internal components properly cooled.   You can do LED lighting inside the HAF case as well.  But be smart about the case you pick...but its your money 
 
The fan controller is pointless but if you want it becaues it looks cool then go for it.  Its your money.
 
The Rampage Extreme mother board will offer you nothing useful that the Asus X79 Deluxe board does not already have on board.  And the Deluxe board has more USB 3.0 ports on the back than the Rampage. 
 
As for liquid cooling, if you are not prepared to go with liquid cooling stage 4 or higher, stick to air cooling.  I recommend the Noctua D14.  Its an excellent air cooler and I have it in my rig. 
 
If you are planning on gaming on two monitors at that resolution, you will definitely need to go with dual GPU's to max out games.  Two GTX570's in SLI should be fine. Might even consider two GTX580's.  I am not 100% sure if two 570's will be enough for two monitors at your resolution, someone else can comment on this.   
 
Also you havent told us what your budget is for this rig.  Do you have a budget in mind? A rig on the X79 platform with the 3930k chip or similar, and going with dual GPU's... you are looking at around $3,000 or more, just to give you the heads up.
