So far im still just looking around, but i thought id bounce my ideas around the forums to see what people think
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=107664
pure gaming machine, as close to 2k as possible
(I have an xp disk already)
let me know what you think, please?
be sure to tell me what you would change and why.
is it possible, since i already have xp, to have digital storm build the system with an unregistered xp copy, then i can just enter my key from xp on this computer(i know... both wont be online, this ones getting wiped and sold)

good system. I recommend adding a sound card though. I notice a big difference even with the cheap one.

If you aren't planning to go SLI, go with an Asus Maximus Formula as Intel chipsets are better.

Overclocking 4 cores to over 3.00 GHz each is more than worth the cost, is getting the ram and vid card going to be worth the heat/price?
I've read about tweaking your ram to meet your processors OC for max performance, is this something that digital storm will do automatically with a processor overclock, or do i have to add the $45 for that?
Sound really doesnt interest me enough for a $30 card that will just consume more power and take up space, on board sound on my friends A1-revision mobo while playing crysis was more than enough to satisfy me. Music in the background too, its just not something that affects me i guess.
No SLI, i want a game machine that will keep my head above water for 2-3 years with no hardware updates.

the sound card can offer plenty of options with the quality of sound but if you arent a musician like myself I can understand why it is not necessary.
Also my sound card sits directly below one of my GPU's causing all the heat to build up making it run pretty hot...

If you don't plan on upgrading to a better GPU yourself, a 8800GTX.
A GTS 512 would probably last you through 3 years as well if you aren't playing on high resolutions. Edited by skyR - 01 Jan 2008 at 1:20pm |

Great card! Produces some heat though so you may want to consider extra fans in your case like I did. I had two 120mm fans installed in the top of my Extreme. Makes a difference. I also have my fans set to 100%. Dropped my temps from around 50 to 51C idle, down to 45 to 46C idle. I'd recommend it. |
