I want to use a widescreen monitor (23" or 24" Acer) at whatever native resolution is (1920x1200?). The PC would be used in the following ways:

this is the closest i can get you to your budget with out using a i5 platform. the reason why you don't waant a i5 platform is because they run off of a x55 platform and it will be discontinued second quarter 2010 when the i9 comes out.

You might be able to knock the price down by going with a 750W power supply but i'm not totally sure. You're next best option that's like close to 1500 is a prebuilt enthusiast 2 with a 5850 instead of a 275 for like 1600+.
