Was looking to update to a new, stronger PC to last another handful of years, as my old one is falling behind. Basically, I'm trying to get in on that Flight Simulator and X4 action lol. Did I do good? Any obvious upgrades I should have made? Also, quick question, I was considering paying for 3-day shipping. Would anyone happen to know how long standard may take to arrive in PA? Just wondering if the $40 extra would be worth it. Thanks! -Potts |

With a Lumos glass case, it is really nice to have RGB fans to enhance the "bling" factor. I'm not sure, but I suspect that those "Standard Factory Chassis Fans" may not be RGB capable. If not, I would suggest upgrading to the Corsair LL or Thermaltake fans, which do have the RGB lighting.
Same comment on the RAM sticks, i.e., upgrade to the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro which include the RGB light bars. BTW, I have a 9 months old Lumos with an i7-9700k and an RTX 2070 Super, 32GB 3200MHz Ram, and I play DCS on a 1440P monitor with max settings and get a very fluid picture. I don't play MSFS2020, but your system should do well with that game. Edited by Bob100 - 30 Aug 2020 at 2:52pm |

Look at the specs for FS2020. Some describe X3 configs.
1]Minimum.. 2]Recommended and 3] Ideal Personally, I aimed for ideal as no other game will test a system like a Flight Sim in my opinion. Another note, mostly my personal preference and opinion, storage. I like having storage, fast storage. I did 1 TB NVMe, 2nd drive is also a 1TB NVMe and 3rd is a 2TB SSD. Plenty of room for OS and some non-taxing apps and programs on the OS drive, second drive for often used and somewhat taxing programs and 3rd, the 2TB SSD is for my games and some storage set aside. I plan on getting a good external SSD for storage of pics, some music and video editing stuff I use now and then. It's up to you, but spend it now or be sorry later. ;-) |

I think your build is fine for what you want for it. You will need the stronger GPU for performance in the flight sim. You should be aware the new line of Nvidia GPUs is to be announced any day now. You might want to have a peek at that before you commit.
I wouldn't bother with the shipping upgrade simply because the shipping companies are unable to perform as they'd like to. With all the fires in Cali and drivers sometimes unable to work because they feel poorly, it's a total crap shoot. Shipping to you should be about 4 or 5 days. You might consider a larger SSD for secondary storage, but if you're going to concentrate on the one game mostly, you're fine. More storage is very easy to add, and costs a bit less online.

Don't know if you committed to this order yet, I mean its a nice setup don't get me wrong. The only thing - and I pretty much would say this to anyone on this site right now to be honest... its kind of "ehhh Nvidia" right now because The 30 series cards start coming out on the 17th of this month (Sept).
I'm not ready for a new desktop (perhaps in 2 years I'll be ready to buy one again) , but if I was I'd wait. I'd still keep an eye on Digital Storm offerings but I'd wait until they started configuring systems with RTX 3070 and 3080 cards. Which I'm guessing will take a month or two AFTER they officially release for all the computer builders like DS and others to officially offer to their customers. |
