I'm new here - I may have short comings I'm not aware of...I'm gonna buy a new computer from a custom builder 'cause I haven't got the guts to put my own together, and I want to use it not look at it for weeks while I figure out what wire or driver I got wrong. I've been to ABS,Cyberpower, Visionman, Wydan,TPI,and Velocity.....I think I am gonna stay here. Your help and advice won't change that--but you may help me put together a system that will let me look at blueprints for work, play with pictures from work and recreation ,and be upgradeable until I wear out the motherboard.I'm going with an Intel E6600,2 mgs of DDR2 800 ram,and a raid set up,my video card will be a 8600GTS from Nvidia..got any helpful ideas...any feedback is way acceptable....Doug

so I am not sure what you're asking, but if you're asking for a build, put together a system on our configuration setup page and we'll let you know if that's what you're looking for

Go with the 8800GTS...from what I've read...it's much better than the 8600. There are some other threads about it in the forum.

Get the Q6600. Since you are a photo editor and cad designer, you will benefit a lot from quad cores.

I agree with Grunt and skyR.  I think that the 8800 at 320 or 640 would serve you better and the Quad Core would better suit your applications for now and the near future.  Make sure to go with the full 680i motherboard.

Two 8600 GTS's do not meet the performance of a single 8800 GTS 640 OR 320!

I encourage you to call them as well.  They were very patient and informative with me when I called.  Robert seemed like an old friend even though it was the first time I spoke with him.  Great customer service.

with what I have learned in the very recent past...I'm going with the pro case for good air flow and 'expandableness'   I have had the wrong idea about a dual hard drive RAID setup...I don't need it..I'm going with a Quad MB and the appropriate PCU...a six hundred PSU.....and some corsair 8oo speed memory...Alex...don't worry ..you won't lose me..after this easy information exchange...the fact that you let Hogg work you soo hard and skyR puts up newegg pages to purchase hardware and you don't blanch....It would be dishonorable to purchase my new box anywhere else...Doug

I have a feeling that you will enjoy your rig as much as I am enjoying mine.  My wife wonders how I can spend so much time on a computer.  I tell her it is like a nice car, you don't have to have anywhere to go to just enjoy the ride.  One day she may understand.

The good thing is that my wife works on Sundays, so after Church and Sunday School it is game fest.
