I could use some in-put on my first ever OC effort.
Here is what I have:
980X CPU
EVGA X58 SLI Classified MB
6 GB HyperX 2000 RAM
My BIOS is set to this.
All system volts are at F7 default. I do not want to burn up anything while I am learning how to do this.
26 X 143 = Target CPU speed 3726
Mem Targer speed 2580
XMP Profile 2
NB = 2995.6
Dram Freg 998.5
2400MNz with 2:18 setting
7, 8, 7, 20, 54, 1T Clocks
Turbo is Disabled
OK, so go ahead an let me hear how bad I messed this up. Had to start somewhere.
If I knew how to post a pic of the CPU-z stuff I would. As I said, i'm new at this.

Sorry but you are full of crap. you are not running your RAM at 2574Mhz, especially with CAS 7 timings. running XMP profile push some voltages way past maximum safe values. |

I don't see anything in my EVGA Classified MB book that tells me what these numbers should be for a factory standard system. I know you do this all day long but it's totaly new to me. I don't see anything that has listings for "do not go past this number" for settings these things. I am using all the tools I could find. CPU-Z, GPU-Z, Real Temp, MSI Afterbunner, I grabbed the burn in ones but haven't got far enough to use one yet. Prime95 and those. I want to learn how to do this but would realy like to NOT break my shinny new computer. V |

Perhaps it would be best if you just told me what these should be set to. Then you need not believe what my bios shows me. I'd be happy to tell you differant numbers as they mean very little to me but these are the ones I have to work with.

upload the pic to a site, like photobucket, then you can either post a link, or post the pic in the thread by using the insert image button, looks like a little tree

DS Tech Chris phoned to helped me re-set my BIOS.
This is for a EVGA X58 Classified MB with a 980X CPU and 6GB HyperX 2000 RAM.
Frequency Control
CPU Clock Ratio (26 ) CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ( 143 ) MCH Strap ( Auto ) CPU Uncore Frequency (Mhz) ( Auto ) CPU Clock Skew ( 0 ps ) Spread Spectrum ( Disabled ) PCIE Frequency (Mhz) ( 100 ) Memory Feature Mem ory Speed ( Standard ) Memory Control Setting ( Enabled ) Memory Frequency ( 1867 2:14 ) Channel Interleave Setting ( 6 Way ) Rank Interleave Setting ( 4 Way ) Memory Low Gap ( Auto ) tCL Setting (7 ) tRCD Setting (8 ) tRP Setting ( 7 ) tRAS Setting ( 20) tRFC Setting ( 54 ) Command Rate ( 1t ) Voltage Control EVGA VDroop Control ( With VDroop ) CPU VCore ( 1.34375 ) CPU VTT Voltage (150) CPU PLL VCore (1.200) IOH PLL VCore ( 1.200) DIMM Voltage ( 1.65 ) DIMM DQ Vref ( +0mV ) QPI PLL VCore (1.200) IOH VCore ( 1.200 ) IOH/ICH I/O Voltage ( Auto ) ICH VCore ( Auto ) PWM Frequency ( 800 Khz ) CPU Feature Intel SpeedStep ( Disabled ) Turbo Mode Function ( Enabled ) CxE Function ( Disabled ) Execute Disable Bit ( Disabled) Virtualization Technology ( Enabled ) Intel HT Technology ( Enabled ) Active Processor Cores ( All ) QPI Control Settings ( Enabled ) QPI Link Fast Mode ( Enabled ) QPI Frequency Selection ( Auto ) OC Recorvery ( Disabled ) PnP/PCI PCI Express Maximum Payload Size ( 128 ) If you have been following this thread you know that I was way far lost in the woods on this one. My system is now running at 3.7 with the HyperX RAM at 2006MHz [998.5 X2] with a few very small changes in volts for CPU. The Dimm volts is locked in at 1.65.
Please post your thoughts on how I might improve on these settings, without setting anything on fire, an maybe we can keep an OC thread going for the 980X CPU.
Vorlon,

there is lots of things you can do to improve, but first it would be good to run prime95, and post up the temps with realtemp.

I have "Prime 95 vs 25.11 build 2" running. It has been running for 6 hours and so far it list "Passed" for all test. I'm not sure how long it takes this program to finish.
"Core Temp" vs 99.7 list the following temps for the cores in my CPU.
# low high
0 22c 55c
1 25c 54c
2 31c 58c
3 22c 52c
4 22c 57c
5 30c 58c
Some have said I should use "Real Temp" but that only list 2 cores not all 6.
With that info, what should I do next.
V
P.S. My system is still at the same BIOS settings that Chris from DS help me setup.

You have to use realtemp GT, GT stands for Gulf Town.. double check using realtemp, but it looks like your temps are very good, so you have a lot of room to overclock it more.Edited by justin.kerr - 18 Aug 2010 at 1:20pm |

Yes, use RealTemp GT for hexacores !
From your temps lets hope that you can safely get to around 4.4 GHz. I look forward to seeing your progress here and will mention that Justin is a superb overclocker.
I'll post my BIOS settings when I get a chance for my multiplier based O/C which does the job 24/7 for me. If I had Justin's experience, I could probably tweak things to be a little better.
.. neilkaz ..hoping 8 cores come out soon

neilkaz,
That would be a great help to me.
I was sure there would be a basic bios setup within this forum but If there is I can't find it.
I know there are a great many possible settings but if they would just post one for each mother board an CPU that passes through thier hands that would be a HUGE help.
This is info that gets noted for the end user anyway so... If those of you out there who have an EVGA X58 Classified SLI 3 motherboard and are using an Intel 980X CPU would please post your bois info here I'd be forever greatfull. Ok,maybe just until my next Guild Wars Mission.
