I enjoy the documentaries about Id Software, the company who came out with Doom.  The story of John Carmack and John Romero.  Doom was a ground-breaking game, but was not the first first-person shooter (I think that was Return to Castle Wolfenstein -- also by Id Software).  These Id Software documentaries are on YouTube; a few are pretty good with lots of good information.  Id Software made their $millions by giving Doom away for free, ... or at least Doom's first level.  Making money from video games was quite an original concept back then.

Even before video games, there were text adventure games.  Last weekend, I watched the movie "GET LAMP The Text Adventure Documentary," on YouTube.  It describes the game Adventure, written by Will Crowther and Don Woods.  I used to sneak into the physics building at night to find an unused computer terminal on the University of Texas campus, just to play Adventure.  "You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike."  So watching GET LAMP brought back a lot of memories for me.

Good times.
