Hey guys, look this over and tell me what you think, please.
It's getting to be about time I retired the 8+ year old Vanquish and with everyday life throwing the odd curveball my way I thought I would start the process. The machine will be 80% gaming/surfing, 15% Office suite and 5% Digital Storm Forums moderation. I run 3 monitors; 2 of which are 1080p and the main is 32" 1440 and I need to make certain I can run all 3 from the 3060 as I currently do with the 1070. That's also the reason I bumped the PSU to 850. I've added 2 additional SSDs to the old Vanquish and will probably be recycling them over to the new machine when I start to run out of space. Anyway, here's the specs. Budget is 3k-ish and order time will probably be May 1st. Digital Storm Velox Processor: Intel Core i7-12700K (4.9 GHz Turbo) (20-Thread) (12-Core) 3.6 GHz (Alder Lake) Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z690-P D4 (Wi-Fi) (Intel Z690 Chipset) System Memory: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 850W Digital Storm Performance Series (Modular) (80 Plus Gold) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (2TB Samsung 980 PRO) (NVM Express) (Gen4 PCIe) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (Dual Fan) (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced LED Lighting System (Multiple RGB Color Modes) Boost Processor: Turbo Boost Advanced Automatic Overclocking Software Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home (64-Bit) Recovery Tools: USB Drive - Windows Installation (Format and Clean Install) Virus Protection: Windows Defender Antivirus (Built-in to Windows) |

Hanging around the Forum will always tempt old school DS customers to upgrade. Best to hide for years otherwise we are always buying the latest & greatest!

Oooh, Velox! That's quite the step up!
No prob on the 3 monitor set-up. Here's what we're looking at: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1070/4090vs3609 Plus 2nd gen Ray tracing and DLSS! I think you'd rather have the OS load/run from the 3x faster 980, wouldn't you? Just get that one at Storage Set 1 and you're all set. You can partition it or not, your choice. Windows has a Wizard you can use. If that doesn't sound the best, maybe just ditch the DS NVMe and sub in the 500 GB 980 at SS1 for $24. Sounds like you'd never miss the other 500 TB with the other drives you have. I think you'll want and like the 980 speed at drive 1 for the life of your rig! My next build will be very similar to yours. We've been 1070 twins all along. |

I dunno... I'm thinking 8 years on the <then> budget machine and being really impressed with the way it has handled everything I've thrown at it, the ol' machine has earned its rest. |

My 12 year old Digital Storm Beast in its super cool HAF case is setting beside me happy and now running as the family server.
In 12 years all I did was replace a fan in the V8 CPU air cooler. They build stuff to last. I might of held off in upgrading if I realized how easy it was to replace the fan and realized why I had temp issues on the old beast at the time. I will say that the new Digital Storm computer is simply amazing! Hard to believe that you can boot bloated Win 11 in just a couple seconds with the 980 SSD. Maybe it was good that the fan went out but it was and still is a respected member of the family now out to pasture and computing easy not gaming like a crazy man like I can do on my new Super Computer! Eight years already. The older we get the faster time flies by.
Congrats Snaike. I came so close to getting the Velox with my new build but was just too much shifting my setup around to view with right side window. |
