Hi friends.
I was looking through my power settings in windows 7 and found this option. I can change it to off, moderate, or maximum. Right now it's maximum. Is this good or bad? Does it bottleneck the card? I have a GTX480 and want the best performance possible. I also want to use the least amount of electricity possible (Since I pay the bill!) so I have it on the power saver plan (though I tweaked a few things). I have it hibernate after 1 hour and turn off the system whenever I sleep/go to work/leave the house. |

id leave it on max, when you system is hibernating its not going to draw power anyway
when you put your computer to 'sleep' does it go completely dark? all lights/fans off?

Stand by/sleep is buggy and sucks. Either my sound doesn't work, the mouse is stuck in permanent right click, the keyboard acts like the alt key is being pressed when it isn't, I can't delete files because it is "discovering" them forever, and other random problems.
I either hibernate after 1 hour of inactivity or just shut down when I leave. Never "sleep." |

s1 glitched up pretty bad sometimes on my original X58 board, wouldn't recover sometimes. S3 works wonders

So what is this PCIe Link State Power thing anyways? Does it mean it only gives juice to the card when it needs it?

couldnt find any good info on it, but i would guess something like that. other things are pci powered too, so it makes sense to have it as a power option. but i wouldnt put anything on a pc less than max

Basically yes, it regulates and power to the pci lanes, to save power, its part of power management. |
