Hey all,

relatively new to pc gaming - would appreciate your help!

I got a brand new rig,
gaming x, brand new i7 13700kf, 3060 Ti 8GB and water cooling !

and yet,
i get no more than 60FPS on the last of us part 1 with fps drops 1% - all the way to 35FPS...

where is my bottleneck?
what to do or upgrade?

Is the GPU just not up for the task? or am I missing something else?

please help! 35FPS is unplayable...

BTW

i overclocked with MSI afterburner and kombuster -
+160 core clock
+400 memory clock
that's the safe spot w/o freezing...
still get allmost the same results...

I not familiar with the specifics of that game. However, we'll need to know about your monitor resolution, and the game settings in order to help. Can you give us some more details? :)

Thanks -

maybe, i understand the game requires a lot,

but, if that were the case - putting the setting to low should have gotten the fps up, shouldn't it?

If you are experiencing FPS drops with an i7 13700kf and a 3060 Ti graphics card, there could be several possible causes:

Driver issues: Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed. You can download them from the NVIDIA website.

Overheating: Check to see if your system is overheating, which can cause FPS drops. Make sure that your CPU and GPU temperatures are within safe limits, and consider improving your system's cooling if necessary.

Background programs: Close any unnecessary programs or applications running in the background, as they can consume system resources and impact performance.

Power supply: Make sure that your power supply is sufficient to support your system's components. If your power supply is underpowered, it can cause performance issues.

Game settings: Adjust the graphics settings in your game to optimize performance. Lowering the resolution, turning off V-Sync or anti-aliasing, and reducing other graphics settings can improve FPS.

System optimizations: Consider optimizing your system by running a disk cleanup, defragmenting your hard drive, and disabling any unnecessary startup programs.

If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing FPS drops, you may want to consult with a computer technician or gaming expert for further assistance.

thank you all for your reply's.

I have water cooling + 5 fans in the box - temp's are 60C max, so that's not it.

As per the rest of your sugestions,
have tried them all to no avail,
60FPS and drops to 45 are now the new and improved numbers but still, i reckon i shoud be getting more than 60......

activated dlss now, and ultra setting, looks really good - but the fps is still at 60 - even at low quality setting... starting to think there is something else:

is it possible my screen doesn't support more than 60FPS and that's the problem?

i was wanting to buy a new gigabyte 32' curved 2k gaming screen that supports 165FPS, will that help ?

It's certainly possible that your monitor is capping at 60. If it's a 144mhz monitor, that's usually adjustable. Using an older HDMI cable? That could be your limiter too.
I did see an older thread on reddit where a user discovered that EVGA Precision and/or MSI Afterburner on his PC also were set to cap at 60. So if that applies.

Is it just The Last of Us? It's the newest entry in the growing list of horrendously optimized console to PC ports.

Congrats and welcome to DS.

Your monitor is a 1080 60Hz (according to the specs you posted) and it will not go above that in fps.

Go into the game settings, and look for a graphics setting called "VSync" or "Vertical Sync." Turn that off, and see if you notice any change in the FPS.

VSync will cap the framerate at the refresh rate of your monitor, and it sounds like that is exactly what's happening.

If that helps, then you'll need to decide if you want to keep VSync on. There are pros and cons to that, but I won't get into the details quite yet. Let's just see if it affects the frame rate first.

Are you seeing a solid 70 FPS that doesn't change? Or does the number float around a little?
