Front connection ports stopped working

I've had my DS for about 6 months now and I noticed within the last week or two that my front USB ports are no longer working.  I have tried both an external HD that requires a powered port and a camera that does not.  Both result in my computer not recognizing that a device is connected.  Both were tried on the ports in the back from the MB and were recognized and operating normally.  Any ideas as to why the front connectors would stop operating?  I have the DS 950si case and have checked the ingetrity of the internal connections.
