I'm going from windows xp 32 bit mode. I put xp on my system about 3 weeks ago because i upgraded hardware.  I have a 32 and 64 bit system disc with my win 7 home edition.  Can i upgrade to a 64 bit os with my new hardware and would it be worth it to do so?

AMD Phenom x 4 955 3.2 ghz
4 gigs 1366 ram

Thank you,

Billy Harris

Well, given base specs there, i'd have to say yes.. it would benefit you to do upgrade to a 64 bit OS, especially if you have any video card memory (because it's not being used by a 32 bit OS). Really it would only matter because you'd have to wipe and do a full install so if you have any software or pictures you can't lose you'd want to back them up.

I don't know of other differences you'd need to worry about but wait til someone else chimes in before accepting my jibjab.

first check and make sure that all your parts, chipset and other things have a available 64bit drivers for them, if they do then you should be fine.

I am not a fan of upgrading, do a clean install by putting the win7 cd in the drive and reboot it and install from that. Of course if you have a lot of files you want to keep and don't want to back up then upgrade for sure.
