So the more I read the forums the more I can see most people prefer the 570 over the 580. Making me wish I had known before I made my order lol. But in any case: I'm wondering if the 580 is going to perform better than a 570 on games going forward? Common sense tells me that a 580 will have a longer effective lifespan, i.e. be able to play new releases at high specs farther into the future, but I'm wondering if that's right? In any case is there anything that the 580 will allow me to do in gaming the 570 won't (besides those marginal extra FPS the 580 can pull)?

No pretty much what the 580 can do the 570 can do, in sli they are even closer, when you are talking 2 to 6 fps better where it counts, that does not mount to much better performance or better longevity.

by the time 570 can't do that great, you can find the 580 with 8 more fps not doing that great either.

see everybody hears things like "the fastest card" or "more powerful" and it makes 590 and 580 sound like these monsters, but when you sit down and look at the real in game difference vs the price difference, you see you are paying like over $10 for each of those extra fps from the 570, and in sli 570 is giving more power then you need so sli 580 is not bringing anything to the table.
