So, what are everyone's thoughts on NVIDIA's recently announced G-Sync technology? They're promising no tearing, no stuttering, and no lag, the three most obvious visual issues on modern tech, for a $100 premium on your monitor. But it's proprietary tech, of course, so it'll only work for a modern GTX card.

Are we looking at a game-changer, or a niche product whose target users are already running 60fps+ and have little need of it?

(Edit: Thinking about it, is this NVIDIA looking ahead to 4K monitors, and the fact that even top tier single card solutions are going to be dropping below 60fps on a routine basis at that resolution? I can see the advertising angle - "NVIDIA: Smooth play at 4K")

Definitely looks interesting. I would actually think this would be geared towards low & mid range gamers as both would benefit greatly on spending only $100 more for a monitor rather than $400+ more on a better video card to keep the action smooth. Long run and for high end gamers, this looks like a good thing for 4k displays as well since that's a lot of pixels to push with current GPUs that this could keep them looking clean and stutter free... And just think, 8k isn't that far off either... This looks like something that could seriously change the outlook on gaming and what is required to get smooth gameplay. nVidia just needs everybody onboard for this to make it an AMD killer.

Agreed that this benefits low & mid range gamers the most... but it looks like it'll be coming in at the $400 monitor range, at least to start with. Given the proliferation of 1080p IPS monitors in the $100-300 space, I wonder if those who would benefit the most will even be giving it a look. Adding $200-300 more of graphic card might be a better investment.

Of course, if the module drops from the current $100 premium and starts getting incorporated in lower-tier monitors as a semi-standard "gamer" feature, then it really could revolutionize the experience for gamers with lower budgets. If so, AMD will have to come up with a response - hopefully we won't end up in a format war where some monitors support NVIDIA and others support AMD!
