How many of you think that the G92 coming in November (rumor) will be the high end card meant to dethrone the 8800 GTX and the Ultra or a Mainstream one in between the current lineup? I think its the latter rather than the former especially considering the driver issues Nvidia has had with the current batch.
Give your 2 cents. |

I have no idea what you just said.
But I do know that they aren't releasing any GPU's that currently outdo the GTX/Ultra. They're releasing the GT's, 256 and 512, with a few up dates to make them a bit faster/more powerful and 10.1 ready. They're replacing the 8600 and 8800GTS 320mb.
The 9 series won't be out till next spring more than likely.

I'm hoping for a mid-range card at a mid-range price.

What happens to the Flahship products like the Ultra and GTX then. They won't get 10.1 support hardware wise but what about software? From what I understand Directx 10.1 would add bug fixes and and it might just be the case of updating your system to Directx 10.1 on SP1 for Vista. Why would Nvidia limit it to only the card?

It's hardware based, not driver based. DX10.1 will require shader version 4.1. The initial DX10 cards were manufactured with shader version 4.0. Any bug fixes released in 10.1 will benefit cards that use the 4.0 shader version, as 10.1 fully supports 10.0. I would not get too excited over this change. It's pretty minor. DX9 has been through multiple shader version changes and I've been getting along just fine on a card built with shader version 2.0. It's nothing to get excited over.
The card itself is supposed to replace the GeForce 8600GTS and the GeForce 8800GTS 320MB cards. I would expect performance to be similar to the current crop of GeForce 8800GTS 640MB card *at best*, and far more likely just shy of that. The GeForce 8800GT is not a flagship killer, it's the midrange card everyone was hoping for 6 months ago.

8600 GT is getting replaced later down the road by another 8600 that is compatible with PCI-E 2.0.
The 8800 GT is replacing 8800 GTS 320MB on October 29th. The 256MB version will be priced at $199 and the 512MB version will be priced at $249. |

If you don't mind (or can read) Chinese: http://news.expreview.com/2007-10-11/1192099246d3907.html Could be legit, could be complete rubbish, but there you have it. (Alleged) 8800GT benchmarks. |

I'm thinking once DS is in the trade in program for Evga, the extra $20-30 will be worth the exchange, especially in the performance side of things.
