I have had two games, Guild Wars, and Medieval 2 Total War, not recognize EAX when I install them. I have a brand new DS system that I absolutely love and I am installing games ( Order 8704).
I have the Xfi Fatality and Vista. I'm new to Vista, used to run XP. Everything seems to be hooked up and running properly, but maybe I am missing something. When I select EAX in the audio options in the games I get a message saying that the proper hardware is not detected, even though I know I have it. I have great sound, can play mp3s, control panel looks ok, creative control panel works..... Kinda stumped, thought I'd try the awesome DS forums.... |

Have you disabled your on-board audio in the bios? May need to do that for the card to work properly.

I can't have eax on either, it creates an issue with my sound, and im not sure why. Its not something thats neccesarily wrong with your computer, I think its something to do with creatives sound cards. And I have attempted to contact them for technical support, but thats like waiting on a miracle to happen it seems, lol.

Steveski - Thanks for the tip. I only see my Xfi listed in device manager. I don't know how to disable in BIOS.
Sarah- Thanks for the follow up....I've tried poking around their website FAQs & forums but no luck so far...I can't tell if my games are actually playing with EAX but not registering, or if I am in 5.1 surround but just not EAX.....never had this problem with all of the other creative sound cards I have used over the last ten years, last one was an Xfi entry level on XP. Thanks again for replying. |

scrigden:
Best thing to do is pull out your motherboard manual and examine the section(s) on CMOS or BIOS settings for the correct changes to make. You might even want to call DS for help in getting into the BIOS and making the correct changes. Mucking around in the BIOS for a novice can be somewhat dangerous. If that doesn't help this is in general what you want to do. Be careful though if you don't know how to muck around in your BIOS settings. 1) Start computer up and when it begins to boot hold down the "DEL" key until the BIOS Screen pops up. It is usually a blue screen. 2) You need to scroll down the menu (scroll down by using your arrow keys) and look for something that says "Integrated Peripherals" or "On-Board Peripherals" or something similar. Once there hit enter. 3) Once there look for something that pertains to audio settings. Something like "AC'97 Audio" or "On-Board Audio" and then scroll down and disable it (usually use "enter" key to see possible settings). 4) Once that is disabled, hit the "esc" key to return to the main menu and scroll down to "Save and Exit" and hit enter. This should then reboot the computer with the changes saved. I would highly recommend you call DS and ask for TECH Support to make these changes. As per Sarah's replies, this may or may not help your problem. On my old computer (my new DS computer shipped yesterday - yahoo) this is how I got my EAX card to work. |
