Budget: 1500 (tower only)
Usage: playing Diablo 3, Wow MOP, Civilization V, Heroes of Might and Magic 6, Starcraft II, Star Wars: The Old Republic Here's what I really want (see below) but it's above budget. My current computer won't play any of the games listed above except for WOW on low settings, so anything will be a big improvement over that! Any thoughts on what to cut? Hi kingpgmer... Welcome to the forums.
You could save $230 by going with the 3570k cpu and 8GB ram. For gaming, the 3570k and 8gb is all you need. Have you checked out the ODE level 1 for $1499. The gtx 670 is about the same gaming, with the 7970 better in some and 670 better in others. It does have a smaller psu but all you need and a smaller HDD. All about the budget. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the quick response. I guess my worry is that 3 years from now 16gb of ram will be needed and as well as an I7 processor, although my research shows that games don't currently utilize hyperthreading (which seems to be the difference between an i5 and an i7). I like to try to buy ahead of the curve so my new pc won't be obsolete in 3 years. I went with the 7970 to get the free 4 game promotion when buying a radeon 7900 series gpu.

Yep, its tough to say what 3 years will bring. HT and more ram maybe, but really can't say. Even if they do I don't see a performance isue but that's just a guess. HT does help with everyday tasks and more ram helps with multi apps open at once.
The 7970 is a real nice card so you're good to go there. Those two changes are all I could come up with to save money. You do have a nice config.
