Hello! First of all, I must say that I'm extremely pleased to have stumbled across this wonderful website - I've been searching around for a few days, attempting to research different desktop configurations, and some of the sites/forums out there are scary!

Okay, on to the computer: I would like to purchase a desktop that will be used mainly for gaming.
1.) My budget is $2000.00, including monitor/keyboard/mouse, but not shipping
2.) I'll be playing mainly MMORPGS: WoW and Aion, Left for Dead 2
3.) I've no idea what resolution I'll play at - suggestions? I know that if I go beyond a 22 inch monitor I'd have to look at picking different components, yeah?
4.) I know I won't be able to build a top of the line rig for this budget, nor will I be able to play absolutely anything and everything I want. I would like, however, for the computer to be upgradeable enough that I don't have to start from scratch 2 years from now. I'd also (and I understand that this is a relative term) like something on the quiet side, if at all possible - that really isn't a priority, though.

To put all of this in perspective, I've been playing WoW on my two-year-old MacBook - anything will be an improvement over that.

Okay! So this is the configuration I'm hanging about:

Not bad.  Evil%20Smile
You can get the 22" Acer bundle (spkrs, kb, mouse) for the same money, and still run the same card. Gotta upgrade the cooler to the Noctua 120mm. Asetek's inferior.
You can get Win7 Pro, the 22" bundle, the Noctua for $1964
In 2 yrs, you can get the latest greatest card. For now, at that res, you're playing everything out there near or at max. System gonna be quiet, too.

Hey, it sounds like your in a similiar situation to me. If you go down a few threads on this page or page 2, you should see my post about a 2,000 mmorpg pc. Most of your choices are ones that were recommended to me. As far as the cooling is concerned, the consensus seems to be that the Noctua coolers are better than the Asetek cooling. So I would switch to the stage 1 for that. As far as monitors and resolutions go, if I understand correctly, the bigger the monitor and resolution the more powerful graphics card you need. I don't know if you will be able to run everyone on max settings with the 5850 but it should certainly be decent. I'll let others that are more experienced add to this, but I'm planning on ordering one pretty much like the one you configured soon.

Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to look over this for me.

I actually did read your thread! That's the only reason any of my configuration makes sense at all I'll definitely go with the Noctua cooling, and I think you're right about the monitor. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to this!

1 wireless isn't great for gaming

2 switch to a i7 920 you wont notice the diff with the oc

3 switch to a noctua cooler the asetek is leaky, not efficiant, and the noctuas cool better. d14 if you can d 12 is great too

4 switch to win7 pro for backwards compatibility and xp mode

to get real LC you need something like frostchill or subzero and they cost money but the cooling power is very considerable... asetek is a cheap knock off that wont do much.

everything else looks great
2.5 Ghz Core duo
Nvidia 9500 gt
3 gb 1033 Mhz ram
