mickrocks, getting the right computer is like getting the right car, we need to know what youre going to use it for, how often, if you care about noise, if you want a lot of bells and whistles, the size of your monitor, what games you play the most, what programs you use outside of games
etc. its like match.com for computers, the more we know, the better advice you can get; dont be fooled by the price tags, you can get a seriously powerful machine for much less than 3200. (obviously if you want to spend that much you can easily do it)
*edit* the info here is a little old, but it can at least help get your feet wet if your serious about spending your money here

They are out of the Q6600 also. Intel isn't shipping them. I had to upgrade mine because I was going to get the Q6600.

Just as a random suggestion...
If you haven't done about 20 builds plus a few more revisions of your final build... and asked every single question you can about each feature, you're not done.
Shoot for something a little powerful and more long-term (that's what I tried to do, although I'm sure someone will comment that mine isn't good enough)
You want a case/motherboard that can support some increased tech down the road... for instance, I don't run dual SLI yet, and only opted for one graphics card... however, when I need it... It will be ready and my computer will feel more new.
I got 4GB ram (overkill for my XP boot) and will eventually upgrade to 8 for my Vista 64 boot on a second hard drive. When I need 8 gb ram.. and when I need to switch over to 64 bit.. it will be easy and it's already waiting... even if my processor is a little out of date.
Unless you want the feelings you're trying to avoid to come back faster (sick of loading, etc)... then think ahead and get something that can be easily added on to. I didn't get liquid cooling, because I obviously plan to upgrade the graphics cards etc very soon and Tyler reinforced my decision because it's a pain in the ass for the common user to switch that out. Stage 3 air worked just fine...etc. Edited by Kain - 27 Jun 2008 at 2:33pm |
