Change the Mobo to an EVGA X58, that would be the suggestion. Other than that post this in the config section and DST4ME will help you out with any build requirements.
And with DS you can order anything you want even if its not on the configurator, |

^^ I'm looking to build the best possible gaming PC. I have a budget of 8k-10k'ish. When I've asked around, I'm suggested to swap out the 3 way 285 to 2x GTX 295. Is 3 285 a hassle? In your opinion, how do you rate this system? Also, what is the difference between an Asus P6T Deluxe and an EVGA X58? |

I took your ticket number and modified it so that all the over kill stuff is removed and left/added all the stuff that makes a difference in performance, in short those two builds are what I think of your build.
LCing the GPUs are not needed and more of a headache, cause anything goes wrong, you have to send the system to DS. if its not lced, then you can swap the cards yourself. the SSDs that are out right now, are not fast, wait till the end of the year, and you should see some real fast ones, Intel has the fastest right now but for the price they are not worth it yet. the veloci is faster in every aspect except for seek time, but we are talking 7ms here. go with veloci right now, next year get a read fast SSD and upgrade to that. right use HDD1 for OS/apps/games and HDD2 for personal/media files. your 12GB of ram is a total waste, we can come in the middle of the night and take out 6GB and you would never know the difference. I gave you more then you need (6GB) and instead gave you faster ram (1866MHz). creative has been having driver issues, and our sound guru recommends the asus xonar so I changed you to that. LAN is always better then wireless, so I changed you to LAN. HAF stock has great cooling and comes with all the fans, so no fan upgrade is needed, it will do a great job of keeping your case cool. eas will not work with most of the x58 platform so that was another waste of money. vista ultimate has remote desktop and premium does not, so I changed you to premium cause ultimate is not worth the price. I wold have changed your PSU to a 1000w but seeing your config, you seem like somebody who in their future GPU upgrades will need a 1200w, so I left that in there in short what did I think of your build? Heh yea, I figured more expensive = better lol. Thanks for the help. In your opinion, how would you rank the customized rig you suggested? Would it be able to play Crysis (and Crysis:Warhead) or anything else to the max settings possible?

my rigs are build to handle what ever you throw at them, at 2560 x 1600 and above.
however on crysis you will be pulling 23fps on high settings, but in other games you are going to be around 60 to 90fps or higher on high settings. your config can't do any better, actually no desktop can do any better. The fastest cards our now are the 295 and 285, they decide what your fps is going to be. Edited by DST4ME - 01 Feb 2009 at 6:14am |

well all the reviews say the dual 295 and tri 285 get around 20 to 40 fps on all high settings at 2560 x 1600.
bottom line is that if he can do it in that system, you can do it in yours, otherwise he is lying. there is no magic involved, you get a i7 965 oced at say 4.0 and 2 x 295 GTX, then you should be pulling what he is pulling or extremely close to it. Push your 965 to 4.4GHz and you should be geting exactly what he is getting. your first 2 links are not at 2560 x 1600, they are at a lower resolution, at that resolutio (1600 x 1200) you would be pulling 60 to 80 fps on crysis warhead Edited by DST4ME - 01 Feb 2009 at 7:18am |

I never said it was dangerous, its not dangerous at all, its just that if the GPUs go bad or you want to say upgrade your GPUs or something does not work right, you will have to send your PC in, and that whole process can take 2 to 3 weeks.
without LC tho many of those scenario can be just be done by you and you don't need to be without your PC for a couple of weeks. if you want to LC the GPUs go ahead, but if I were you, I would be ready to send it a couple of times alteast, not saying its definite, but if it does come-up, I don't want you to think the PC is bad or DS is bad or anything like that, its just part of the game of LCing the GPUs. Personally from the things I have read and seen(limited exposure though) I would have to say going with SSDs right now is a waste of money. Maybe in a couple of years of even in a year, they will be more viable. I say go with the 300GB WD Veloci.

one more question tho, if i wanted (just for argument sake) DS to put in the asus mobo instead of the evga could they? and about the HDs, is there any reason to have a third HD? and in your opinion, should I get the 3 285 instead of the 2 295? |

3 285's will give you a slight edge over the 295s, although it will be abit more expensive.
If you went tri sli you would have to go with evga, because the asus board doesn't support it.
3rd hd would be used as a back up for your other 2 or just another hd to store pictures/music.

if you look at my build you can drop HDD3, for backup I suggest external drive, you can mek you own:
choose your HDD choose your external enclosure If you are wondering I use this one for cloning go evga you will have much less hassle, looks like asus has been dropping the ball a bit, we have seen lots of problems with asus. but yes if you ask, DS will use what ever you want. I like 2 x 295 cause it leaves a pci slot free but thats just me, its upto you really, I think its more matter of preference cause the performance is very close tho as DSNB210 mentioned the tri 285s come on top but as I mentioned before it by like 10 to 14 fps. silly question but tri sli means the 285 right? so evga is best for that? and specifically between the asus model i mentioned in my first post versus the evga in the build both agreed upon is there much difference other than tri sli support? |

no evga has less bugs and its a better board IMO.
you can triple slit the 295 cause that is basically 6 gpus, you can go only upto quad sli, which is 2 x 295 the 285 is a single gpu so you can sli 3 of them. |

so if I get the 3 285s, what precautions should I take in other areas of the rig? Definitely a lot of cooling, lot of power, the evga, have DS overclock everything?
