This is the build i am considering http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=424569  However, it's a bit over my budget, so i'm looking for suggestions on cutting down on cost without reducing performance much. current max monitor resolution is 1920x1200.  I want the SSD to put the OS on it, which i've heard can increase boot time and overall responsive of windows. I also want to keep the tv tuner. The rest could be modified. Primarily going to be used for gaming, plus some regular work as well.

I am not the best at this as I am just getting reacquainted with PCs myself.

You can easily shave some costs though.

Downgrade to 6GB Ram... no need for 12BGfor gaming
Downgrade to a Corsair 750watt PSU
Swap to a GTX480... this can be based on preference

That alone can save you a bundle of cash. 

But honestly wait until someone else pops in with an opinion.  I do believe I have you on the right track atleast though.

Just basic stuff, office, email and whatnot. TV watching as well, hence the TV tuner. I think i will downgrade the ram. I was going for around 2200-2300, but cheaper is better.

yea change the ram to 6gb at 1600, psu to 750tx, im not an ati fan at all, so id go for the 480, but other than that, youre looking pretty good.

you could drop the price another $40 by getting the haf932 which will give you the same performance cooling wise. but if you like the hafx better get it, theres nothing wrong with it. i wouldnt really change anything else, good job! :)

Thanks for the input guys, i did downgrade the ram. I personally find the haf X more awesome, i'll stick with that. I've heard the 5970 performs better than the 480, could you verify this? Also, does getting a 750 watt PSU limit upgradeability in the future?

I will let someone else chime in on the 5970 vs 480...

If you want the ability to add a second GPU down the road I think most will suggest the 1250watt PSU.  My understanding is that the 1000watt PSU is kind of a no mans land.  I built my PC with a 1250 so I could add a second GTX480 in the future.  Also if you are considering future upgrades in this build you may want the Air Stage 2  Noctua D14 to cool 2 GPUs.

Again I would wait for another opinion as I am still gaining knowledge on all of this...

well the noctua is the cpu cooler, not related to the video cards or thier cooling
 
the 5970 will currently do better than the gtx 480 but its almost $200 more so thats not really much of a comparison. the 5970 is 2 GPUs on 1 card
 
yes with a 750tx you will not be able to add a second card, but you are WAY better off just buying a new card in the future then trying to add a 2nd later.
 
adding new rims on an old car might make it look better, but it wont change the fact that it is still out of date

alright, thanks guys, here's the new build. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=424583 I went with the 750 Psu, but I'm keeping the 5970, as i don't need to save additional money. also, it's only 120 dollars more !ender, as DS has a promotion on it.

well i think 3 years is the lowest warranty but i feel that about every 3 years is a good time to buy again, im not a huge fan of the "upgrade later" game
if you think youll use it longer, id get the longer warranty

3 years for parts i meant, which would be the 5 year limited i believe. Yeah. I think i'll get the 4 year. probably after 2 years, the parts will either be cheap enough to replace, or i'll want to purchase an upgrade.

yea im actually a little shady on the warranty setup, its tough to make assumptions about hardware lasting a specific amount of time, but id say 2 years should be a reasonably safe bet for replacement parts

Well. A week's contemplation, and a few minor tweaks later (i actually did end up going with the 480, and the HAF 922 for size reasons), i have ordered this beast. Can't wait!

you can keep busy by buying the software you need for your new comp this way all you need to do is install when you get it and not have to waste time shopping
