Can anyone advise me what would be a decent spec system to run Fornite? There's some great options on the DS website I/E the Lumos, but I don't know if I should go for AMD or Intel etc, memory and hard drive space etc, It's a present for a relative when he passes his driving his test, personally I've never played Fortnite hence having little idea of what to get, Milo

Man, you sure don't give much to go on....
Budget and monitor resolution are the key factors. It would also help if you thought he'd like pretty lights and such. Fortnite is a pretty well optimized game, so it doesn't take a monster set-up to perform well. If he uses a 1080p (1920x1080 resolution) monitor, a Lynx "Best Seller" model 3 ("Best") at $1299 will definitely be a strong gaming experience all around. If it's the next step up: 2560x1440, aka 1440p resolution, you're looking at quite a bit more $$, plus a short wait 'til the new Nvidia RTX 3070 is out late October. Intel is still the best CPU for gaming, even in the budget class. More info?

Haha my bad, sorry, thanks for the reply ![]() Budget for the tower would be around $1700, I was looking at the Lumos (it won't let me post a link) This may sound daft but I was assuming he could plug the tower into his 42" hdmi TV instead of using a monitor, would that not work? |

Well you can get a Lumos for that amount, but it presents a problem powering a TV at 4K resolution. I don't have a lot of knowledge about that, but I know you need a pretty powerful video card (GPU) to get to that high resolution picture. My understanding is that you can make selections using the GPU's software to reduce the resolution to play the game on a TV.
The best overall setup you can get with some bling, and a fairly powerful card you can get a better picture with is the Lynx "Ultimate" for $1499. it's a package deal DS puts together with some pretty good parts in it. IMHO, you would be much better off all around getting the "Best" one at $1299 and throwing in a 27" 1080p IPS monitor you can get for under $300. like this one for example: ASUS VG278Q 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 144Hz. To get a Lumos case instead will cost more and result in some compromises. Here's a sample: DS Config # 3464343 $1677 To see this in the Configurator, choose "Load Config" at upper right on the main page, and paste the number only in the window. The compromises are a less powerful CPU, and a considerably less capable GPU, but you do get a much faster solid state hard drive. These are not disastrous, but they are not quite as good as the parts combo in either one of the Lynxes. To make the Lumos build better, you could get the RTX 2060 which comes in the Lynx 3, but it would cost you another $105. Does it help? Questions?
