Well, Nvidia pulled a nasty trick and waited to leak out the info on a new card on January instead of December. Yeah, 9800 is scheduled for Feb/March which blows cuz I've just made an order for the 8800 Ultra. Apparently 30% performance improvement over the ultra, the 9800 will obviously kick a**. I wonder how long the Ultra will last for in terms of decent gaming....

You can use the step up program if you really want next gen cards.
Their new flagship releasing in February is just 2 8800s stuck together to fit one PCI-E slot. It's just 8800 SLI redesigned and renamed. |

The Step-Up program is offered by EVGA in-order to give their customers the most flexibility possible.
You can trade in your GPU within the first 90 days of purchase (shown on invoice) for a newly released GPU. You pay for shipping and the difference between the two GPUs. More information about the program: http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp?switch=3 |

the 8800 ultra should last a while? I can't see buying a new video card every 6 months - 1 year just because something new and faster is out....

Its not that it won't last, its just the fact that Ultra has been
around for a while (was it released in April?). So paying big buck for
Ultra now seems kinda pointless if a new card is coming out. It is also
upsetting that gaming industry can't even catch up to the existing
technologies (how many DX10 games are there?) or they take full
advantage of the power that new graphics have and don't optimize their
code (Crysis) resulting in lower FPS with powerful systems. Bottom line
is, it just suxx that the best card out there will stay best for a few
months...
FYI for the last 3 years I've been rolling with a laptop equipped with Mobility Radeon 9600 with 64MB shared memory... trust me, I don't upgrade every few months... |

I didn't mean you, I was just talking in general.. Anyway I hope they start producing games that take advantage of these newer cards.
