To any xm15 owners out there, especially those who have the 1920x1080 display, what are your general thoughts on this? I'm hunting around for a laptop, and can't find a better fit for what I want in a laptop then the xm15 here, heh, no other company likes to prebuild a laptop with SB, 1920x1080, Optimus, and an SSD lol. SO, more than likely I'll be looking here to (finally) see what my next laptop would be.
Also, what do you guys think would be a good fit for what I want, just to see whether I'm on the right track? I'll be needing this thing probably most for running a programming environment called "Labview" by National Instruments for a robotics team I'm in, but also for possibly some gaming from time to time (I absolutely do NOT mind toning down performance for FPS gains), and maybe some small office work and general net browing, the usual things a computer does when I occasionally need to bring it out for more basic things. I MAY consider using it for a bit of video editing via Sony Vegas (Movie Studio, not Pro). Again, the track I was looking toward was SB (I have NO clue whether quad-core is overkill, I'll probably look towards it just in case but if anyone's actually used Labview before does it like to run with multi-threaded processors better?) and a 1920x1080 screen for screen room, Optimus for battery life, and an SSD to speed up boot times because at my robotics team we need this thing up and running ASAP at anytime. |

I don't have the 1080P screen, I don't think you can really compare it to the 1st generation Core i5 / i7xm15. My laptop version of the xm15 has a plastic feel to it, the new one with the Intel Sandy Bridge CPU's have a "rubberized" feel over the plastic construction. I have recently replaced my mechanical hard drive with an Intel 80 GB SSD, and it's so fast. Boot time is about 20 seconds with the fingerprint log in and shutdowns in less than 5 seconds.

Ah no, i just mean the basic functions of the laptop itself not the performance, heh. As in, how it feels, any annoyances with it, any issues with components of the laptop that could still exist on the newer chipset models being released by DS now, etc.

It has a crammed number pad. I use it sometimes to type numbers fast like a student ID and phone numbers. The +, -, / and * are in a weird location.

I have an xm15 that I use. I am really happy with it. I also have the 1080P resolution, which allows me to multi-task with a few windows at the same time.
