I think alot of the compatibility issues withvista 64 bit version have probably been worked through by now but I'm still wondering if you all have good free (preferably) software firewalls and anti virus you could recommend that will work with vista 64. I have used zone alarm and AVG for years and like them but if I need to jump to new ones I'm open. Suggestions?

eset sutie direct download, av and firewall, IMO the best out there, it has a full 30 day trial so try it before you buy it

Is there any real need for their firewall/antispam vs windows firewall?

It's always good to keep an antivirus on your computer that can be used to scan manually, but unless you're browsing really shady/risky sites often then you don't really need a firewall. You might not even need an antivirus if you're smart.

I always have AV. Just wondering if ESET's whole suite is worth it or if I should just get the AV and use windows firewall.

windows firewall is not as good as firewall from av makers.
the eset firewall is much better and has more options to help with connections with different things. I never use windows firewall, its always disabled, I use my own firewall and on vista 64bit I'm going with eset smart security and disabling the windows firewall.
