the desktops are for sure b/c of the many things you can do to customize them im not 100% about the labtops though i didnt see anything that looked so much better than some other labtops out their i mean for ex. i didnt even seee an option for anything over a 2.0 ghz processor when i know that toshiba, dell, HP have faster processors on the market now. ( its been about a month since i scoped it out maybe it changed) all im saying is that unless u need the portability id go with a desktop

ifnerno DS offers a laptop with 920, 950, and 975, dell, hp or any other of those types of companies don't even offer such a thing.
what I don't like is that DS's laptops have only a 1 year warranty. |

i have seen other labtops with i7's inside. sorry bout that i didnt recall seing one with an i7 config last time i checked maybe it was added after i looked. i still dont think a labtops worth it though unless you need the portability, for example u cant add LC your labtop and other stuff. + that config cost a lot more than a basic 920 config with a monitor added.

I did a comparison in the hardware section when somebody asked about the alienware M17X, I compared a config of that to DS's high end with a 950.
the DS laptop with a better SSD, faster CPU, better GPU, came out to be $300 less. you are right other custom builder do have i7 laptops but places like dell, hp and Toshiba and such don't, those are the ones I was referring to ![]() otherwise you are right there are other places that offer an i7 but I'm not sure if their price is competetive but like I said I wish DS had a longer warranty, for me a laptop has to have atleast 3 years.

i wonder if the warantys less cuz the labtop really cant cool the i7 like a desktop so it doesnt last as long? personally i had a labtop i hated the fact that they wernt very upgradeable something + in my old labtop burned up with i mistakenly thought it could run flight simulator x gold i think either the ati card fried or the speakers cuz it pops and runs super slow whenever sounds enabled

I just think gaming in laptops is not a good idea due to heat, why DS has a one year warranty I'm not sure but you are right heat is a main factor when talking laptops no matter what.
lol now if we could liquid cool the laptops heat would not be much of an issue

Hmm.. you maybe onto something there DST4ME. I wonder if it'd be possible to seal the laptop and treat it as a reservoir. Of course the electronics would need to be shielded somewhat. Probably some manner of ceramic. Meh... where's a laptop TEC cooler when ya need one.

the issuse probalys a bit deeper i think that would make the labtop a lot heavier and bigger so it takes away from the portability of it which is y u get it in the 1st place

labtops are probably what most are going to buy. Their were a lot of ppl whod pay an extra 200 for a labtop when their was a desktop with an monitor they could buy that gave more performance and not b/c they needed to take a computer with the anywhere either. talking stuff where yeah but i cant have the desktop with me in my bed and whatnot. and college students pretty much only have labtops 92% of the students had labtops. i didnt know any1 who'd bought their desktop in fac the only desktops i saw were in computer labs and even some of theose were labtops. desktops will prob end up just be for gaming enthusiast like us. a labtop will do everything the avg person needs.

Guys, Those are all interesting replies. This OLD HP does not run if unplugged. I am a truck driver so space is a major consideration. The computer is always hooked up to a 1500 watt inverter for 110 volt power.
Does any one have an Idea of how much unplugged time you might get with A Model S-17. There have been times when it would be nice to take it out side without a power cord, if battery life was not an issue. (By The way this old HP is a zd8000 with a P4 HT 3.19 ghz, 2gb ram and an ATI Mobility Radeon X600)Yes by today's standards it would be a dinosour. It has had a hard life it runs streets and trips with GPS when I am rolling, Yes it has handled the vibration and bumps well. It has never seen the inside of a computer shop. Cooling it was an issue at first, solved by cutting holes in the platform it sits on under the fans. They now pull fresh air instead of strugeling to get any air from under the machine. |
