Hello All, I will be purchasing a DS rig soon with a Q9550 chip. My desire is to play Crisis and other PC games and I will be using a 22' monitor at 1600 x 1200 resolution. That said, is the 260 GTX card sufficient or will I see an improvement with a 280 GTX. Thanks in advance

For that resolution if you want optimum experience, its best to go with 2 x 280/260 GTX or 1 x 4870x2
you can check my post here with charts and different resolution. now when you talking 2 x 260 GTX, there is not gonna be much noticeable difference from 2 x 280 GTX. checkout the charts, take into account the info above, then make your decision good luck Edited by DST4ME - 12 Oct 2008 at 3:57am |

I am getting a q9550 and only one 280 and will be using 1920x1200 res. From the research I have done I should get around 40 fps on vary high with x4aa/x4as. Has anyone heard different or from expirance had different results with only one??

If you are using this system for mainly gaming, I would suggest going with an E8400 and if your budget permits, 2x GTX280s. |

Is there something wrong with a q9550? I am using my cellphone and can not see the price difference. Ticket# 193641 is my config. If you could check the differance in cost it would really help me out but why the 8400 and not the 9550??

nothing is wrong with q9550, games don't use quad cores yet, so for gaming only pc, the E8xxx OCs higher so games benefit from it. just remember is a dual core tho.
your setup with q9550 price = $3395 your setup with E8400 price = $3261 |

Does that include the $70 to watercoothe second gpu? Also wont the other two cores handle the background prosses and tasks when the playing a game that only uses two f of the cores??

Yes but most people don't do anything else while playing games, which is why venom said that if the system is going to be used mainly for gaming go with E8400.
otherwise in multitasking q9550 wins everytime. as for as the $70 , all I did was use your ticket number and change the cpu, everything else stayed the same. I myself prefer the Q9550 between the two. Edited by DST4ME - 12 Oct 2008 at 5:30am |

I'm waiting for the core i7 to come out before I order my PC from DS.
I have many PCs, most are oced with liquid cooling. my last PC was dell xps 720 h2c, I don't play games on my PC, I like to play my games on console. |

I'm what you call a poweruser, I have multiple stuff running at the same and most are heavy duty, for example F@H, this app will use all four cores to the max. on top of that, I got other things going on that are memory intensive, virtual servers, video encoding, etc.
I have a ps3, wii and xbox, I grew up on consoles, so I'm used to those. |
