Hi all,

My DS BOLT (purchased in 2015) has served me really well over the years but I think it's time for me to buy a new PC. I plan on buying a pc with an AMD 5900x CPU but not sure if I should wait for the 6800xt or go with the NVIDIA 3080 GPU. I play mostly CSGO and Wow sometimes. I might play newer titles but I'm not sure yet.

Do you all think that an AMD CPU paired with the 6800xt will be way better than an AMD CPU with a 3080?

Thanks for your input.

Don't know about "way better", but better yes. That's because they will both be using the benefits of the Gen 4 MB PCIe slot for the GPU. AMD has developed their new line of CPUs to really work well with GPU's in a Gen 4 PCIe slot, something Intel won't have until sometime next year. Seeing as how nVidia's 3000 series cards are still hard to get ahold of, there is no reason to not wait for AMD's new cards to come out.

As soon, and I mean as soon as DS has those cards up for an option, that would be the time to put your order in. Just my thoughts on it.

Good luck and when you do config one, post it so we can see.

Thank you fireman. Based on what you said, I think I'm going to wait until they launch the 6800xt. I'll probably check YT channels for independent benchmarks to GPU comparisons when they are out too.

Correctamundo. fwffdfireman is right on all counts. AMD has deliberately set up their Ryzen 5000 CPUs to boost performance of their GPU line. A bit like a "auto-overclock" without having to tamper with the card.

The way i look at it the amd gpu may be better but when your already getting 150fps whats 10 more matter. I'd opt for whatever card you can get first. Both will leave you very happy and if your going amd cpu the pci gen 4 benifits like fireman said will be nice on both cards.

I am not touting one product over the other. Well, I guess I kind of am. Heck, AMD needs loving too and they deserve it finally. They just bested Intel on the cpu market and I very seriously doubt they will follow that with low performing gpus. According to leaks and best guesses based on architecture, the new NAVIs should score right up there, if not better as the nVidia cards.

The "edge" is going to be in how AMD has designed how their new CPUs and GPUs work together on a Gen 4 MB for the Ryzen CPUs to squeeze out every bit of performance more efficiently. I am so looking forward to testing once the testers get their hands on the new GPUs, but I fully expect AMD to shock us AGAIN!

Again, seeing as of right now, if you spec a system with a 3080 or 3090, you are in for a wait. So why not just use that wait and see what develops with the soon to be released AMD cards. If I was spec'ing a PC right now, that is exactly what I would do. But hey, I never claimed to be right in the head, just handsome!

Yeah Amd has come a really long way since Lisa Sue took over. It's nice that their pushing competition to nvidia and to get intel off their lazy butts lol. I heard rumors of nvidia releasing a 20gb 3080ti to compete with the 6900xt. The enthusiast in me wants to buy it but I don't think ill need anything other than a 3080 for along while haha. Come to think of it when i purchase my laptop later it'll probably be all amd!
