Is it worth it to have DS overclock a GTX 460 as opposed to spending the money on a 480? I will be using noctua D14 cooling.

No; overclocking your graphics card gives a bad performance to heat increase curve, its not like a CPU. I recommend you get the GTX 480 instead as it will most probablygreatly outperform an OCd 460

it matters the game. non-CPU intensive games will see no performance increase with CPU overclock, especially at high resolutions. A stock CPU or 5Ghz CPU, no difference. Overclocking the GPU will increase frames per second. buying cheap parts and overclocking them to perform like more expesive ones is the base of overclocking to start with.

apples to oranges comparison.
if you can only afford a GTX 460, get one, OC the crap out of it. if you can afford a GX 470 same, GTX 480.. lol same

well i dont really think its apples to oranges, even by your explination, its more apples to more expensive apples
the 460 is a solid card, howvever overclocked it likely could not catch a 480.. even if it could, that idea is meaningless next to an overclocked 480

point being, if you are gaming, get the most video power your budget will allow, then if you want to overclock it, feel free

Tell these guys what kind of games you play and what resolution monitor you play at and they'll steer you in the right direction graphics card wise.

My new DS computer has dual EVGA 480 cards in SLI.  I play Guild Wars and here is what I know.   My old DS computer which was my main game system had dual EVGA 8800GTX. Very easy to see the differance between 2 480 an 2 8800GTX cards.  I did an upgrade to my old game computer from the two 8800GTX to two 460 1GB cards. I can tell you that there is very little differance to actual in game play between the two sets of cards. Two 460 cards will cost you less, run way-way cooler, and give you higher frame rates then a single 480 card.

No. You'll want to go 1200w or more for two 480's.

I just checked the price of adding dual 480s to my build and I think I will go with a single. I don't do too much competitive multiplayer and my games are not graphics intensive. Mainly Star Trek online and Total war games also the new star wars MMO next year.

a single is really enough unless you want to play at big res and max most game settings... its not like youll be even with the curve, youll still be ahead of it

well my stance on that is go big or go home, meaning get 2 now and enjoy or hold out for a new card later, more details on that in the guide under the SLI section (price explination)

its a matter of preference really, if it's in your budget to add 2 480s and at least a 1200W power supply (without downgrading other things a lot) then I would go for it. It'a all up to you though.
