I had the plan to build a brand new super gaming rig last year. Build went sloppy but ended well and now its a disaster. Here's what it is. Processor :2.13 intel core 2 duo Hard Drive: raptor 10000rpm 150gig and 2 WD 250gig hardrives Video Card:8800gts 320mb evga nvidia Motherboard: evga intel based 650i atx Sound Card none Power Supply: 500watt ULTRA uv sensitive Speakers:old crappy ones Operating System:windows vista home premium Fans 4 neon green fans look sick Case: sunbeam acrylic uv sensitive with counter strike sticker uv sensitive on side Keyboard: saitek 2 MouseL 2000dpi razor green Monitor: sceptre naga3 21 inch Misc, hard plastic mouse pad with button to turn blue glow up and down. So this should have been an unbelievable rig and if you think i got the name of a part wrong or missed something just ask i can actually take the time to check. I can also get pictures of the rig. the whole thing is uve reactive and glows blue with orange mesh covering most of the inside wiring. My big problem is that its always freezing up no matter what im doing, and im pretty sure its not viruses because ive gotten rid of everything with 5 different strong virus protection programs including housecall and spybot. Lastly there is a lightscribe sata 20x dvd burner drive which is sick. I tried playing crysis on full everything and it was super slow, and laggy then i turned everything down and it was still slow, this machine should be able to run the game with ease on all medium high settings. Using this machine had become intolerable. |

Well, let's get the obvious out of the way.
Have you stress tested your components? GPU with ATI Tools, CPU with Orthos or Prime95, and RAM with memtest86. Do you monitor temps to make sure it's not overheating? Did you clean the inside of the case recently? Have you tried a fresh operating system install and updated your drivers to the latest? 650i is an nvidia chipset, not intel. Maybe your PSU isn't supplying enough power? (most under 1000W from Ultra are absolutely garbage) |

havnt done any stress tests, but will, not sure how to test monitor, but i think its good, havnt cleaned the case recently, and if i do a fresh operating system install wont that erase all my stuff, and i dont think i can cause i dont have a copy of vista i upgraded for xp with a dell disk. and which drivers should i update, i recently updated the video card one, and the 650i is intel ur right my bad and the psu problem i think has to be a problem, cause if u look at wat i running and how much is in there including two uv cathodes its only a 500watt, would that make my comp freeze, because its a f**ked power supply anyway it makes clicking noises and bugs the hell outta me so if i cant get it fixed im just gonna try to either sell it or open it up and try to fix it myself, and if worst comes to worst ill just buy a much higher watt power supply.

I wasn't talking about testing your monitor. I was talking about monitoring the temperatures of your CPU and GPU with software such as HW Monitor. You should probably do this first since you haven't cleaned your case recently. Your stuff might be overheating due to the dust build up.
Upgrading with a Dell disc... that might be an issue. You have 3 HDDs... an operating system install only needs one drive. So if you aren't using the 2 drives for backup purposes, what are they doing? If your PSU is making clicking noises, it means it's on its way to failing. You don't need a bigger PSU, you just need to pick a non-sh*tty brand like Seasonic, Corsair, or PCP&C. Edited by skyR - 30 Nov 2008 at 12:47am |
