GT200 comes in 55nm

Later in Q4

Nvidia is going to refresh its GT200 offering with a 55nm version of the chip. We don’t know many details, but they will get faster and they might give Nvidia a fighting chance.

We heard that they might be out by November, but this is not something we can confirm at the moment. There should be two products, one to replace GT280 and one to replace GT260.

From the original prognosis this new card might actually end up marginally faster than Radeon 4870 and 4870 X2, but it won’t leave them in the dust, which means that Nvidia will have to wait for 40 nm chips in 2009 to turn the situation around.

The good thing is that they are coming.

I dont get the sentence the new card might actually end up being marginally faster then the R4870 and the R4870X2.

1. The 65NM GTX 280 is already faster then the R4870.
2. The performance difference between a R4870 and an X2 is a lot, so i dont see how it can be marginally faster in both cases.

Unless they are talking about the GTX 260 being faster then a 4870 and the GTX 280 being faster then the X2. If thats the case okay, but the wording is horrible.

I guess this is the right topic to place this.

40 nm GPUs?  The more stuff that comes out the more tempted I feel to wait even more...
