I have a standard GTX 480 that I ordered in a system that DS shipped to me a few months ago.
Here is the issue. I have seen a few individuals that have posted 900+ on the CoreClock of this card and I can't seem to get above 860/1720/2060 and keep it stable. I know each card has it's own limitations, but I would like input as to things I have not yet thought of to increase this setting. 1. I purchased the Danger Den GTX 480 nickle plated water block 2. I put Black Ice II Xtreme RAD with dual 120mm 75CFM fans underneath 3. I have a 240mm drawing out of the top of the case over the RAD as well 4. My ForceWare version is 260.99 5. I use AfterBurner 2.0.0 to overclock 6. I get 27640 using 3D Mark 2008, but the GPU scores seem low (23806) 7. I have a TechNPS 755W power 8. 12 GB of TechNPS DDR3 1600MHz RAM 9. Intel i7 930 OC'd to 4.26 GHz If I have missed something that you need to know in order to help me please let me know and I will add it to the post. At this point I am at a loss ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by cyberotter - 22 Nov 2010 at 5:43pm |

Should I modify the BIOS to get more V??? I can run the card at 1125 & 1138 with the same crash after 2-3 minutes?

If you are comfortable in doing that, then yes, mod the BIOS to raise the Voltage limits, or use MSI AB extreme, or a mod for MSI.
On my GTX 470, which are set to a lor lower maximum voltage, I used 1.25V on air, but after that, extra voltgae did not help, temps were too high to keep stable.
High VID 480's won't clock as well, your temps are good, so more voltage to go higher. Also your RAM seems very slow, have you tried raising it? My GTX 470 uses slower speed RAM and I was running it at 2160Mhz

I don't mean to be a dumb as, but what does VID stand for? There is an extreme version of AB? No I have not yet got to raising the RAM clock yet. How much does that effect the video response if I may be so retarded as to inquire?

Yes, raising the memory will raise your score, and you will also find that core speed and memory speed have a funky relationship
Yes there is an extreme version of MSI AB, and also some mods that you can add to it to raise the core voltage, max 1.6V If I remember correctly, hard mods to go higher than that. but I am not at liberty to give those out
Using the BIOS flash you can get a lot more V core, so that would be a good route, if you are comfortable in flashing the GPU BIOS

Thank you very much Justin. I will attempt to find this elusive extreme version and work on raising my RAM speeds
