I have followed the forum of recent and I want to start by saying thanks to everyone ahead of time. I have built my own machines in the past but I have come to accept that I am not a pro and it is too much work to ‘get it right’ so that is why I have come to DS. I am a computer programmer, right now I have two machines that I use at the same time with synergy. They are both quad cores, 8gbs (6gbs on one) memory, raid 1 off the mother board. Both machines have dual monitors. The machines are beyond their last legs and it is impacting my business so it’s time for a great machine. I would appreciate guidance because I am not sure on where to start with the building this. Here are the major items: · I want the machine to be able to support 6 monitors. I just program / web surf so performance is not required. · Most mem possible. I literally use all 14 gbs right now between my programming tools, build processing and Photoshop. · In my research leaning towards i7 -1366 (would like to overclock) · Looking at the evga e758-tr board Thank you…Dustin |

I am trying to leave budget out right now, I want to see what would be the 'correct' machine for me and then adjust down as need be.

Nothing that should be a factor. My OS is usually a raid 1 (current is 250gb drives) and then I usually put another drive that is a 1tb (since it is most cost effective) for code backups, music etc.
I am no where near filling them up.

Pricing wish that is not a problem.
Thank you for providing that setup. The only thing I am concerned about is memory. If my current two system setup is constantly using all 14 gbs then I am worried that this new machine would be the 'same' as opposed to an upgrade.

You would need to talk to Digital Storm, I would suggest a dual socket board for you, twice the power amid 24Gbs of RAM, your other option would be to use ultra expensive 4 GB stick of RAM, the dual socket board would be a great way to go.

also the ATI 6 port video card will be released on March 11Th so that one card will run 6 monitors and have 2Gb of memory.
The dual socket board comes out next month also I believe.

Interesting, the problem is time is against me. The wait time for a custom machine is long (totally worth it) so I dont think I can afford to wait for a product release.

The dual socket EVGA board would just be perfect for you, maybe if you call them they will have one early? or at least know the exact release date, there are server boards available now that will run two i7's and 24Gb of RAM, just no overclocking, but that also would be a question to ask Digital Storm directly, I know what can be done, I just don't know what they can do..
