Just curious what the maintenance would be like for this setup. Would you remove a side panel to get at the cooler to add fluid? How do you flush the system & add all new coolant? Don't you have to make sure there isn't any air in the tubes when you do that? As you can tell liquid cooling is all Greek to me.

well you have to be careful, asetek is not real liquid system, as in it does not provide the performance of a real liquid system, aka your temps are not gonna be the same as frostchill/subzero, instead you will have the performance of a v8 or Noctua.
now if you are talking about frostchill or subzero then thats different, they do have some maintenance. while we are on the subject, I like to point out to you that Noctua is much better then asetek go with it, and haf 932, 950si, and hailstrom are much better cases then raven so go with one of them. so let us know which one you are talking about, if its a real LC system then we can tell you the maintenance, otherwise asetek does not have any, but then again it doesn't have the temps either, nor a long track record. |

I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with the Raven 2 case, I like the way the motherboard it setup in it & I like the fact that it seems to be setup to keep as much dust out as possible. would you recommend just going with an air cooling upgrade or none at all because the case seems to have very nice stock cooling.

lol you are gonna find out that dust will be in there and the case does not have great cooling, why spend more money for fan upgrade when the haf stock out performs it? the way the mobo is setup will make absolutely no difference to you or the over all performance of the pc in this case.
3 x 230mm fans = great airflow 3 x 120mm fans = not so great airflow, specially when one of them is block by HDD/media section. and they are 1000 rpm fans. you will also have problem with trying to go tri sli with media drives, and all along you are paying more. you can spend $5 and get filters for just about any fans don't say we didn't warn you. but you got to go with what you like, I'm just letting you know that you are spending more and getting less. either the haf 922/932 .. 932 a little bit more .. with a high performance air cooler, like the noctua (most would prefer this) or the v8 will be more than enough for your case's breathing.

The way the mobo is setup does make a difference. Not a huge one but I like not having to slide the tower out to get to any of the ports, just pull off the top panel. I don't think just getting filters for the fans will help the HAF32 dust issue, mind you I'm just going off of reviews I've read. I actually was considering the 932 before reading some of the reviews. Anyone who owns the 932 care to comment?

any case that has good airflow has dust issue, unless you put filters on it and still you get dust.
I mean the case itself doesn't do anything special to attracts dust, its the fans what have high airflow, they suck lot of air into the system and with air comes dust, put a dust filter and it will do great, in the past we have had many people put filter on the side fan and front fan and have been very happy. I myself clean my pc out once a week, because its so often it takes 2 minutes, cause there is nothing really to clean. Like I said we are just giving the info upfront so tommarrow nobdy can say "well I didn't know" or "nobody told me". make no mistake that case is inferior, but like I said if that is what you like then you got to go with what you like. |

1 single 120MM radiator is not any more powerful than a good air cooler. all I have to contribute to this. lol

Hey that's why I'm getting the info now, not buying just yet. I have a Siverstone right now & haven't had to dust it out in the over 2 years that I've had it. Of course the airflow doesn't compare to the cases we're discussing now.

What would you recommend for cooling in the Raven 2 case, Alex? I'm not going for a SLI setup, and just moderate cpu overclocking.

you always want better temps, better temps = less headache and longer life.
unless you get butt load of fans, they are not going to make a big difference in your gpu temps, sli/cf or not. get the haf, get filters for the fans, and you get the same dust results but much better airflow. there isn't really anything to recommend for the rav2 as far as cooling, its not like you can add more fans then it has, all you can do is replace those 3 fans with more powerful/louder fans. as for the parts tho, cpu/gpu air will be fine in just about any case, you just won't have the same airflow/temps as the next person with a haf and filters. how about the sniper? that has good airflow and filter also, its a midtower but its very close to the size of full towers. I was actually looking at the Sniper, it's still pretty open but not as much as the other Cooler Master cases. It would be nice if there was a local shop I could check the cases out at but no such luck. Also the built in fan control is a nice feature & that esata port will be nice for my external hd...wonder if DS will add more case choices before I purchase me next PC. Thanks for the info thus far

The fan controller is built into the case, I'm sure they'll hook up the esata port just fine with a P55 motherboard.

oh I thought you were referring to the fan controller that is in the pic of DS, ya it does come with a controller for its stock fans, but you are not really need it, cause those fans are not loud and it reduces your airflow.

Honestly, having just gotten the Sniper case, those fans push almost as much air on their lowest setting as the highest, and they are good deal louder on the highest setting. I notice maybe 1-2 degrees difference on high speed vs. low. |

Good to know, are you pleased with the case? I'm still deciding between that or the Raven 2.

Here is an in depth review of the storm sniper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0noVmfonfws&feature=channel There are 3 parts to this review and pretty much confirms what pulsedrive said. The difference in temps between high and low settings is only a couple of C. Noise seems to be noticeable at the high setting though.
If it's between the Raven and Sniper, I think Sniper is your best bet. |

anything is better then raven, your temps on what is 2c diffference? the fans won't make a big difference in cpu temps, its more the temp inside the case itself that they help with and depending on the situation, it could help the gpus.
one review from one source does not mean anything. we dont' know room temp, inside hardware is not the same, that will make a big difference also, then there is oc and lot more stuff, once cpu test don't mean nothing. I doubt the difference is huge, but how much of a difference is different to each person/system. Edited by DST4ME - 14 Feb 2010 at 12:42am |

Well pulsedrive has the case and said himself he only gets about a 1-2c difference in temps from low to high settings. I then found a review that seemed to find that he only found about a 2c decrease in temps on his GPUs.
I'm pretty sure pusle and the guy in the vid don't have identical components, so it's good to get a different perspective. In this case there seem to be similar results. Obviously there are many factors to consider and it's not good to get info from only one source. So if you have any constructive information based on personal experience with this case or from other reviewers, then I'm sure the op would like to hear about it. |

Raven 2? What about the original Raven the RV01? Lol.
The Raven 2's internal mounting design looks a bit strange compared to other cases, and a little bit weirder than even the original Raven.... Er, just read the manuals and see if it's good for you... Raven 2 - http://silverstonetek.com/downloads/Manual/case/Multi-RV02-Manual.pdf Consider the original? - http://silverstonetek.com/raven/download/Multi-RV01-Manual.pdf (Why I think the Raven 2's a bit strange... you have to strap on the PSU in midair, main side panel's on the right instead of left....) |
