Ive upgraded after researching every component that i could.
most were EXTREMELY quiet (HUGE PRIORITY!) so i got rid of noise material, saving 80$ which i used to upgrade hdd's. 497639 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=497639 |

cool, but i want to stick with the 922 (i love it); but i will ask them to mount the 200mm onto the side blowing air directly onto my components. also, i dont really want an ssd all that much, id rather go with the velociraptor and caviar. thank you for the suggestion though.

velociraptor cost too much for little gains, don't waste your money on it.
a ssd will eat a veloci for snack and not even blink, and this is comeing from a person that has and loves veloci, and i have ssds, I can't say I would drop money on veloci anymore, between hdds like black caviar 1TB and ssds, money on veloci = wasted. ok so you went with 922, then ask DS to add that same 200mm fan I mentioned for the 942, to the side of 922, the reason I recommended haf x is because you will endup wiht more room and better airflow with 4 x 200mm fans, vs the 922 and 3 x 200mm fans, but if you want a smaller case the 922 is also very good |

ok then, for the space i have available ill put this in perspective. my current comp is sitting on an empty ammo box from the Korean war which is on its side (with the LOUDEST hdd EVER). im thinking of building a little mount so the bottom fan can work. otherwise, i want to wait for solid states's prices to lower. ill think about it when i upgrade though. thank for the suggestion

when you are ready to add the ssd, come back or go read my clone guide:
you can follow my clone guide here it will move everything in one shot, os/apps and all. also all ssds are not the same, so go with intel, cause they have the best reliability so far. |

if i use an ssd should i get the 40 or 80gb for games/os
and what should i use for the data. i want to leave room for extras (i already added the crysis 2) an example would be: use the 1.5tb barracuda, this leaves about 101$ for addons! use this if you want to leave a url: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=498475 EDIT: i want to use intel because they have the best r/w/ speeds Edited by Vaude - 10 Mar 2011 at 7:50pm |

My first build was with 922
so glad They changed to 932
the custom windows for the 922 are almost impossible to find.
They are almost identical.
Well whatever you decide it will rock

win7 takes 20GB itself, so a 40GB is out of question, the 80GB is not big enough either, and also the 40/80GB drives are not as fast as the 160GB.
so in short go for something like a 120/160GB. look at my build, In a few month buy a ssd and use that for HDD1 for OS/Games/Apps, and push the 1TB to HDD2 and use it for storage, the black caviar is picked for its speed. I hope you are not getting that i7 950 build you have posted. |

The new Sandybridge CPUs run cooler, can be overclocked higher, and are faster clock for clock than a 950.
Old, outdated, and horribly overpriced. They're slower than a standard 1TB HDD, avoid VelociRaptors like the plague. Just stick with SSD + standard HDD combos. If currently SSD is too expensive for you then hold off for the Intel G3 SSDs to come out soon, which are slated to have a very good GB/$ price. |

Well dragoon pretty much said what I was gonna say, don't spend money on the 950, when a 2600K is more powerful/cooler/ocs higher.
I thought we agree that you go with the black caviar now and then add the ssd later when gen3 comes out. |

Alright ill go to sandy arch..., is it cheaper? does it still work with a v6gt, AND can i still get 6gb of ram, 8 seems like to much (i have yet to use a full gb of ram with my current system).
EDIT: no, i cant use 6gb of ram. Should i go with 4gb of 2000mhz ram for 30$ less? Edited by Vaude - 13 Mar 2011 at 4:14pm |

Also, Ive applied for a summer job which will probably fetch me about 800$. Should i wait till my sophomore year starts or get it around June at the latest? http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=500205 Edited by Vaude - 13 Mar 2011 at 4:25pm |

Vaude, I'd stick with Intel SSDs, stay away from Sandforce (that Force) ones.
The G3 Intel SSDs come out anywhere from the next few days to within a few weeks, just wait for them. |

That build is all wrong, just add the ssd later as we discussed, you are spending money on things that are not needed at all and don't bring much to the table, the fan controller and upgraded fan in a haf case is waste of your money:
