I notice that the HAF 932 fans dont have any dust filters on them and if you dont want to replace the huge default fans with 120mm fans you'll have a hard time finding a dust filter in their size.
First question, for those of you that have the HAF 932, Hows the dust situation? Wouldn't the dust be an overheating issue over time regardless of the high airflow? I dont want to seem lazy, but opening the case and cleaning out dust every week or every couple of days sounds kind of irritating! I need a high maintenance case like i need a high maintenance gf... lol. Second question, Im trying to figure out an efficient and not too expensive DIY solution to the filter problem regardless of the answer to question one! Can you guys help me out in coming up with some materials that may be used to filter out the dust without affecting the airflow produced by the fans too much? |

I know certain foams can be used. i was thinking maybe some fabrics too, someone suggested a few layers of something with a loose open weave like gauze. I even read leggings can work! But i think leggings would decrease airflow too much. Anyone have some more ideas?

An "airy" thin piece of foam would work, or a mesh metal sheet, though dust isn't a huge issue. Take a can of air and quickly hit stuff that you see dust on. Should only need to do it once maybe twice a month.

I do the same as Harleyman, I clean about once a month unless I see a build up of dust. I keep a can of air just in case there is a build up that looks worrying.

I have double the problems, since I smoke. Dust + Smoke (which includes tar, other cigarette products).
I have an air purifier on the other side of my desk (where I keep the ashtray), and also a "air flow solution" for my house which involves an outlet fan right next to my couch where I sit to watch TV or use my PS3.
Every 2-3 months I put the computer on a table outside and blow it out with an air compressor. Cheaper and much more effective than that cruddy canned air.
The only note of caution I'd mention is to either tie down or somehow block any fan blades from turning as I've heard it can ruin their motor. I usually just stick a screwdriver or ruler through them so they can't turn while I blow 'em out. That compressor can really put out some power.
Never had to deal with LC radiators, though, so we'll see how that goes. Edited by Psimon - 06 Oct 2009 at 8:07am |

You know what works great? An air mattress pump! That and a vaccum! I kid you not, its how I cleaned my system.

I figure that the simplest solution would be to just
periodically use a hand vac and compressed air. Psimon, you use one of those hardware air compressors, like...for nail guns?! I must be confused or something, that cant be what you mean! Thats pretty damn hardcore of you though, lol!! |

yah, an air compressor.
The maintenance guy uses it for painting and nail guns, etc. It's not a huge unit though a bit heavy. Doesn't put out enough pressure to damage my system, but it's a hell of a lot better than canned air for removing dust.
However, Venom's "spot method" of removing dust (canned air on buildups) is probably a good idea. I just let mine dirty up until I see it needs cleaning, or in any event every 2-3 months, then I blow it out.
