HAF-X Air-flow question

Good morning everyone,
 
Another day at work here, but I would like to pick the forums brain(s) for a minute... I have the HAF-X case with the two top fans installed (in exhaust mode). I am idling around 50C for the GPU's and 40C CPU on air. The case is positioned right underneath the Air-conditioning duct and the cold air is literally falling on top of the case like a waterfall of cold air.
 
My inquiry is... do you think that by flipping the top fans into 'intake-mode' would it help lower my temps even more cause it would be bringing in all that cold cold air rather than countering the flow by exhausting air from the top?
 
I know some of you have already pondered on this and I am asking in advance since I can't try this till I get home tonight.

if you turn the pc off can you actually feel the cold air falling right on top of the case. does the outside of the case get cold if the pc is left off for a while? if so i'd be tempted to change the air flow a little bit and see what kind of results i get.

depending on your heatsink, but you should see a little drop in temps, probably 5-6 degrees. Just depends on ambient with air cooling also.(:

cooling is all about expierments

try making the top 2 in and the side and rear fans out see if your load temps change, idle doesnt mean anything really. so just do like 5 passes of intel burn test before and after the change, then compare
 
the weakness to this idea is that when/if the ac is not on, you will likely lose any advantage over the way its set up now

I agree.  Come winter when that AC isn't on it could actually bump you up a degree or two.  I'd leave it as is.

Also, I'm guessing those top fans are not filtered which would be another reason not to as it would be dust directed right at the components.  Prolly would not be anything to worry about but it just doesn't make the p.i.t.a of swapping fans around worth it.

AC/ON: Fans on intake mode
GPU on Load max settings w/ heaven 2.1
CPU on Load 5x passes of IntelBurnTest

AC/OFF: Fans on intake mode
GPU on Load max settings w/ heaven 2.1
CPU on Load 5x passes of IntelBurnTest

AC/ON: Fans on exhaust
GPU on Load max settings w/ heaven 2.1

make sure you do the ac off tests a LONG time after you turn it off, as the risidual cool air will screw up the testing

^^ Disregard my above post. After testing this idea out, it appears that You guys are right... changing the top fans direction even with AC did change the temps but nothing too drastic... and some cases made the temps for the GPU's worse by a few C's

I put everything back the way it was, and I just changed the way the HAF-X side fan shroud was mounted to get the GPU's better airflow on those heatpipes...

Temps in-case are way better now with or without AC.

Maybe "if" I had higher rpm fans blowing in the cold air it would have made much more difference, but like you said come winter time we wont have the ac on it would be the heat!
