Need some help here.
On startup, computer won't recognize external WD hard drive and I have to hit reset button for it to complete startup. Go into "my computer" and sure enough the external drive isn't there. However, if I unplug the data cable from the back of the hard drive and reconnect it, it gets recognized and is immediately usable again. I've done this several times and it works every time. Simply unplug and immediately replug. Bad cable? Bad drive? any thoughts? Win 7-64bit system. thanks |

You're a genius Ender!!!!
I'm quite the idiot at times. My system is blazingly fast, but of course I'm never satisfied, so I turned off a few services that I thought were safe to set to manual. I just went and turned them back on and Voila! my external hard drive connects at boot. I think the offending service was Distributed Link Tracking Client....but I'm not sure. All I know is that there's nothing wrong with my drive, just my brain. Thanks again, you're a pal. Al |
