Just had a hard drive die in the wife's laptop. The drive that died was a 320 GB 5400 RPM OEM model so I'm not surprised it's croaked in a little over a year. I'm looking for a replacement model and taking suggestions of something comparable or maybe a bit better that won't break the bank ($50-$75). I'm not interested in SSD but would be interested in hearing news about the Spinpoint technology and if it's worthwhile.

Thanks

Oh boy, I've been looking at laptop HDD's too.

Western Digital I personally like, and they have a couple of drives that would do nicely, i think.

The Scorpio Blue runs at 5400 rpm too, and it has a capacity ranging from 160 to 500 GB.  On amazon.com the 320 GB version runs for $53, the 500 GB for $75. Both within your budget, what a coincidence...

If you wanna sacrifice a little more dough for faster speeds, there's a WD 320GB drive that runs at 7200 rpm; $89 on amazon. (in addition, there's a free fall sensor to reduce risks of HDD damage if you drop the laptop :D)
