I gave my old ram sticks (PC2-5300) to a friend of mine.  And now the only thing is is trying to determine what are the supported speeds the motherboard has.

It has one ram stick inside but that one is PC2-4200.  Not sure if that's the maximum or it can go higher.

I'll try using the Crucial RAM's website scanner application to see if it works.  But for my own personal interest, is there an application that allows you to scan?

Let's presume this was just some built computer that's already old enough as it is, and it was given by my friend's relative, from god knows where from god knows what time.  So this obviously presuming all other methods of information are a dead end.
