Ok.. Hardware:
The Vanquish 2 ultimate I have has the Zalman CPU Cooling system.. Fan, fins, heatsink. I've noticed while completing my bi weekly cleaning that the fins are starting to muck up with dust. How hard is it to remove the entire setup so I can get in there and clean those fins out? Software: Something happened, something changed when I restarted my machine. Now I am getting the User Account Control warning on everything I open (CCleaner, HWMonitor, etc,) asking me if I want to make the changes to this computer... well, of course I do, that's why I started it. Question, can UAC just be turned off and let my anti-virus do it's thing? Or is this UAC something to be using? And if so, why haven't I seen it before. And now for something fun: As most are aware, I received this machine in March of 2014. Well, as of yesterday, Monday the 26th of April, 2015, I FINALLY pulled the plastic sheeting from the window. And yes, it was just as satisfying doing it now as it would have been a year ago. Maybe moreso, because I've always known it was there.
Thoughts and opinions are always welcome. Edited by Snaike - 28 Apr 2015 at 9:00am |

Depends on the Zalman model, but for most cooler, either 2 or 4 screws mount the fins to the cpu, screwing into standoffs mounted from below the mobo. Should be easy to take off, assuming the thermal paste hasn't hardened. Goes on the same way, but you might want to reapply new paste. I personally wouldn't mess with it.
![]() I'd leave UAC on. Anti virus doesn't prevent changes to the system. If it just started showing, it could have been disabled and a recent Windows update defaulted it to on. You can check it by typing UAC in the Search box. It is a slight annoyance at first, but it is routine, now. Have fun. Edited by bprat22 - 28 Apr 2015 at 9:32am |

Hi Snaike,
This might be a good excuse to add a closed loop cooler of some type. Frank |

Pulling the plastic off is one of the best parts.
I had a laptop once where I left a piece of that plastic on it for the entire life of the laptop, mainly because I didn't even realize it was there. ![]() |
