Havendale CPU + IGP 45nm is cancelled

To be replaced by Clarkdale 32 nm

It looks like Intel is not keen on waiting for AMD's recovery, and it just shocked the world with internal announcement to cancel Havendale 45nm, its first dual core CPU with integrated IGP. Cancelling this CPU sounds like a bad idea, but it is actually a good one if you can replace it with a better CPU and launch it at the same time.

Clarkdale is the name of the new CPU with the IGP and according to Intel it should be ready for production in Q4 2009. To make things better, this is first of many Intel’s 32nm based CPUs to come. We expect a full ramp up in early 2010 but Intel will be ready to at least show and ship it to a selected few in late 2009.

We are quite sure that Clarkdale is an MCM, Multi Chip Module approach, but it is still impressive that Intel could bring such a product relatively fast.

The announcement of Clarkdale means the death of Havendale and this product will certainly be cancelled and won't make it to the market simply because the 32nm dual core will have better thermals and can be cheaper to produce.

Here is a good article:  "Intel's 32nm Update: The Follow-on to Core i7 and More"

It looks like the next chip to get will be the 32nm 6 core Gulftown coming out in mid 2010.  But the big question will be:....and I quote from the above link....

"Intel’s X58 chipset will remain the top dog through 2010. Chances are that we won’t see it replaced until the next tock with Sandy Bridge. Now that isn’t to say that the six-core 32nm Gulftown will work in existing X58 motherboards; while that would be nice, Intel does have a habit of forcing motherboard upgrades, we’ll have to wait and see."
