DS says that they are currently using Sapphire brand for for the Radeon HD 5870. I've read several negative reviews.
For instance, justin.kerr - "Saphire has created their own PCB, it is crap compared to ATI's reference design, on the 5870 1Gb cards. The 2Gb are still the ATI reference design." Should I go for this model or consider one of the other options like XFX, Eyefinity, Asus Matrix. I'm not sure I want spend to spend more money so another option would be to go with the HD 5850 overclocked (also Sapphire brand). I selected the 5870 to play Starcraft 2 at max settings at a 1920x1200 resolution. When they much get cheaper, I'd like to crossfire. Any advice? |

go with 480 :P and you wouldnt want to get a crossfire/sli either way, i suggest just getting the most updated single vid card when the time you want to get the sli/cf.

As long as it is a reference 5870. you are good, the 5870 has more power per dollar, but not by much.. the 480 is more powerful.. The 470 is still the best value out there IMHO ,if you overclock the snott out of it. . but then it gets loud and hot, and needs to be liquid cooled.. lol

the hd 5870 I got 3 weeks ago was a HIS model. It was RMA'ed inside a week, and replaced with a GTX 480. The card was a dud, but in a way I was glad it crapped, because ATI drivers are garbage anyways. That was my first and last ATI card.
Anybody that tells you the 480 gets hot has no idea how to set up a fan profile, and use their case to their advantage in cooling the card. I get 75 degrees@75% fan on load now. It's not much louder than the 5870 on load, but does run a WHOPPING 10 degrees hotter. Edited by Liq - 28 Jul 2010 at 6:10pm |
